Awww, thanks ya'll!! With the crazy weather we've had this year AND adjusting to sandy soil vs clay(not that I mind), it's been quite a learning curve. I honestly bit off way more than I could chew, but at the same time, glad I did. I am already getting ahead of myself again as I plot my garden plans for the winter. Of course, that's all mostly going to be digging out new beds and this time, remembering to put down a THICK layer of newspapers to kill any remaining grass. That's one mistake I made in my hastiness to get beds in last year and I have paid dearly by digging out alot of grass where I don't want it. As a matter of fact, I will need to revamp the memorial garden this winter to that effect because it was the worst culprit this year.

I find Ortho's Grass B Gone kills grass very nicely when it comes up in beds. It doesn't affect broad leaf plants in the least and it might save you from having to dig up the beds again.

Ladybugfruit, What a nice way to honor your mom! We all know just how much work it takes to get things going and keep them going, especially during this last season! Congrats to you for pulling it off!

You are definitely headed in the right direction!!

One idea I used was to put large coffeecup type screw hooks on the fence. Then I hung metal wire fencing from the hooks. I have tied several types of vines or roses to that. When and if you need to repair, stain the wooden fence, whatever, you just unhook the wire to get to the wooden fence.

Sheesh! My first post was lost. I commented on how lovely your garden is. I especially like your statue garden :) she's lovely and I just love blue/yellow mixes. I just noticed the cute dog hiding in the flowers.

roselee - thanks for the suggestion for the otho b gone. I guess I am a glutton for punishment in that department. With the exception of fire ants (and that's after I'v exhausted other options), I am totally organic. :)
melvalena -Thanks so much! My mama was quite an amazing gardener and decorator (think southern living) and such an inspiration. She gave me the passion for gardening and I can't think of a better way to honor her either.

My sweet puppy that is in the last picture....we just had to put her down last week and boy it's been tough. She was always content to lay in the yard with me while I gardened. She is missed so much.

Your sentiments mirrior mine! Amdro (I'm allergic to ant stings) and Round up because all the pulling in the world didn't work. My mom taught me how to love gardening too.
