Well, count me envious Roselee!

Beautiful! That Pat Austin reminds me of a Grahmn Thomas only more orangy. My mom grew a lot of roses when I was growing up. I was always partial to those cabbage roses... Right now I just have climbers and mini roses. If I can find a tough cabbage that might change.

Well PJ, you just found one, or I should say found out about it! Unfortunately September Morn is only offered by a couple of out of state rose nurseries in band size. It would be nice if some place like Chamblees or ARE would pick it up. The roses are bigger, last longer, and are much more fragrant than Belinda's Dream, another rose that I love.

Speaking of roses when we were growing up; on the way to elementary school a bunch of us passed a house that grew some big roses out by the curb. Thinking back I bet they were of the Radiance clan of old hybrid teas. We'd put a petal in the circle made with the thumb and forefinger and slap it with the palm of the other hand to make a loud popping noise. It's a wonder the poor neighbor didn't get us good for that! I still do it once in a while just for fun.

Don't want to make nobody envious Richard, although I know you meant that as a compliment. I just want to pass along what's working for me in the rose growing department :-)

Lovely, lovely, Roselee. I had every intention of cutting my climbers back severely last month as the heat had NOT been kind to them, but alas, did not get "round to it", so now my Don Juan is putting on quite a show. Maybe that is why I procrastinated ...think??? Also, my Grandma's Yellow rose, Hot Chocolate, Belinda's Dream, Perfume Delight, Chrysler Imperial, Coral Dawn (a climber I picked up for $4 at Walmart and she smells heavenly), and fianlly, a rose that came from an old farm house down where I grew up..........have no idea what the name is......it is red, gets very large and blooms all year except the very dead of winter. Love that rose.

Carrie, thanks! You must know I'm totally intrigued that you have an old farmhouse red rose. Let's try to ID it. When you get a chance please take photos of the blooms, the leaves, and the thorns and send them to me.

Awesome, Roselee (again). That Pat Austin and September Morn are just spectacular. You definitely are a green fairy.

Ruth, I got September Morn as a band this spring from Rogue Valley Roses in Oregon.

The cold in winter does faze the roses in containers, not even newly rooted roses in one gal. containers. I grow a lot of roses in large pots, 10 gal and up. No matter how I try to amend the thin black clay soil here, even making raised beds with purchased rose soil, it doesn't hold the water and nutrients like a pot does so through the years I've switched most of the roses to containers in which I've drilled large holes with a door knob attachment so they are well drained and the roots can also go out the bottom.

roselee, my September Morn is paid for and I scheduled shipping for around March 1st.

Ruth, you will not be disappointed! You'll probably get to smell the blooms of September Morn in short order. Mine started blooming when just a young thing. I didn't remove the buds as is sometimes recommended so that strength goes toward building the size of the bush. Being very vigerous it keeps growing and blooming at the same time. I don't know if you saw my post on the Antique Rose Forum about it, but the flowers lasted the longest of any rose I had during the triple digit heat. I'm going to post some more photos to HMF soon.
