I love those cup shaped flowers. I never even knew they existed until this year. Jude the obscure is one of my favorites.

Gorgeous roses! Are you sure about the name on that "TICKLE ME PINK?" Could it be "COLOR ME PINK?" I just got that one last yr at Lowe's and I see J&P has already dumped it.

the_bustopher, to my surprise, I am finding that clematis are not so difficult to grow after all. And they are so well-behaved. sure. Destined to become one of my favorite perennials, I think. OGD, I planted H.F. Young last fall, and it has taken off very well in this, its first spring. I'm really pleased with it, and may have to get an additional one. I've always been cautious about yellow roses, because I always figured you wouldn't be able to tell the yellow blooms from the yellow rose leaves. My yellow 'Rise-N-Shine' is a good rose, very tough and bushy, but it sometimes gets yellow leaves that blend in a little too well with its small blooms. But 'Pacific Serenade' is irresistable to me. It has larger blooms than 'Rise-N-Shine' and it has some fragrance. And 'Pacific Serenade' is just so smooth to the touch ... I don't know how the hybridizer did that, but I showed my appreciation with my wallet, since I bought three of this rose. Randy

Thanks Tyler, I think that some of the large-leaved succulents like agave attenuata give off such a tropical vibe, especially when paired with palms. Barb, funny you would ask! Yes! I live with an expectation that some of my plants will "walk away." When I first planted succulents out, i had tons of tiny cuttings, and probably around 20 echeveria imbricata that I had propagated. The echeveria really stood out in the bare yard and all but 2 or so were stolen. Someone must've come back for more because every day there were 1 or 2 or 3 missing until I took the remaining ones and potted them up in the backyard. I don't mind people taking cuttings so much, and I haven't noticed any plants being butchered but I have seen someone take a handful of cuttings from the sedum before. I recently divided two clumps of graptoveria 'fred ives' and spread the rosettes across an area in the front. I was expecting about half of those to go missing but luckily none have! There is an office complex across the street so we do get quite a bit of non-residential foot-traffic as well as regular foot traffic you would expect in an urban neighborhood. I wonder if sedum could work for you as groundcover? And perhaps sedum praealtum (or maybe it's Sedum dendroideum ssp. praealtum ) could be hardy in your area also. We used it at another house as hedge material. It's very prolific and roots very easily. We started with a single cutting and by the end of the year, had propagated enough of the rosettes to plant a low-growing hedge. Best of all is the red coloration is picks up during winter and when stressed by drought.

I love cupshaped flowers too, and Jude's fragrance is wonderful.

Beth, you're right..duh. It is Color Me Pink. This is the 2nd year for mine, and it's just hitting its stride. Vigorous and the blooms are regularly 4 to 5 inches across. They last forever in the vase, pity there's no fragrance. All of my HTs are doing the candleabra thing this year.

Eric, your roses are photos are lovely. Do you love the fragrance of Maggie? I do, a friend recently gave me one and I wonder why I never grew it before. You have a nice collection.

Thanks Carla. My Maggie was planted in the spring and is maybe 3ft X 3ft now. I haven't detected a really strong fragrance, but what I've smelled I do like. I'm bad at describing scents, but smelled old rose/damask to me. I'm hoping the fragrance will increase as it gets older.

Thanks ramblinrosez, it was one of those days where every rose seemed to be putting on a show.

Those were all gorgeous. I really liked Abraham Darby and Lady Hillindon. I have not heard of the Lady before. They all look very happy. Thanks for sharing those.

Hi Kate, thanks. Apparently I cannot spell anything :) Lady "Hillindon" is supposed to be "Hillingdon"....that's about as close as I'll get to hybridizing my own rose ;)

Thanks peachie. Wow, of the roses picured, I'd have to say Abraham Darby. It is in it's 3rd huge flush right now, a vergy pleasing rose.

Thanks Renee. That picture was taken in the morning. When I came home from work, the bloom was opened more, showing the stamen, then later that night it closed back up.

These are great. I especially like your Lady Hillingdon and your Prince. Oddly enough, Lady Hillingdon is one of the only old tea roses that I have never encountered "in person". It doesn't seem to be as common around here as some of the other old teas. The three different colors on the three blooms on your Prince are fascinating.

wow, thats some beautiful roses you got there.Love Ebb Tide.Its the only one I have with blooms on it at present.Love Tiffany too,and Maggie is a winner.Deer got to mine,so I have no blooms or leaves either.Nothing but bare canes.
