Lazy Hot Summer Days

With the summer day's heating up in the high 90's I only enjoy the gardens in the early mornings and late evening's. The most fun I get out of the gardens is sitting back watching who or what comes around. Yesterday there was an Anole running along the top of the fence. I have hundreds of lizards babies run around all over the place as I approach their area.

Also this year I've try doing potted plants, some have done very well and some not so good.

This little one is about 2 inches long.

Baby Tears sedum, I got this one from the fort worth swap in a sandwich bag which wasn't more than a plam full, WOW Look at it now.

This is a morning glory bush I started from seed, it is now 6 feet tall with buds. I can't wait to see the flowers.

Aren't I pretty in yellow

Scarlet Gem and mini rose bush, it has bloomed all through spring and summer

Sunny Dew another mini rose that has bloomed all through spring and summer

Barb, I so enjoyed visiting your yard in these lazy days of summer, and seeing all the color, and the critter! This must be the time of year the baby anoles are hatching out in droves. I have a bunch of them skittering around here too.

Very pretty, Barb. The baby anoles are cute. I think we are on our third hatching this summer, and since we finally got some rain, there are baby toads everywhere.

Oh yeah, it's hot. Hard to get up the energy to crawl out there and start turning compost. As the greens pile up and the insects begin to attack then it's time to put on some browns. Something like sawdust or shredded paper works and the aroma is reduced immediatly. Come fall then flip the whole thing over and let it rot all winter and spring. Of course when you get to the bottom of that pile you'll find some nice stuff to put into the garden to winter over. Come spring, when your dying to get out there, that's the time to spread that compost on the surface of the garden as a mulch and it'll feed the plants all summer.

Oh, man, Jolana, I used to visit a friend when I was little and the pastures, woods and streams around his house that we spent all our time roaming through were infested. I'd come back with dozens of the little buggers. I can remember being one big - miserable - welt from those worthless critters at times. My sympathies!

I know I live right across from ST. Louis and have been keeping both bird baths full and they all hit early morning and late evening, don't see any birds from noon to 5p.m. I just love to watch them bath and keep cool great picture.:)

This is REALLY looking good to me today. The air conditioning is off here at work. And we can't open our windows. I'm on the third floor of our building and it's 87 degrees already in my office. Yikes! Thinking cool thoughts and singing the "Snow-miser" song from that Rudolph Christmas special... :-) --Jenn

There you go Barb, putting me to work. Looking at your pretty stuff I go "I want some that, and that". Now I have to go see what out of your pretty stuff might grow here. ;)

Richard if you come down this way in the fall you can have some of this and that in trades and meet the bunch of us.
