After 14 years it finally bloomed!!!

Rangoon Creeper!

I paid a pretty penny for it ($24.00, a lot for me anyway) at ARE in Brenham years ago when we used to go to the rose symposiums there. After never blooming for several years I dug it up and gave it to a friend. She never got around to planting it and it died in the pot.

Then a year or two later it came up here from a root sprout and since it is a pretty plant and nothing ever bothers it I let it stay.

This is the first year it didn't freeze back. Is that the secret???

And talk about fragrance! I can't think of another plant whose tropical fragrance wafts as much as this one. To my nose it smells like a cross between a gardenia and strong honey.

A passion vine intertwines it and peeks through ...

It's nice in combo with esperanze too ...

And since I'm here I'll show you the Velvet pod mimosa doing it's thing out in the *ell strip. It does well in afternoon sun.

Close up of the flower. I really love this plant and plan to grow some from seed for the S. A. swap ...

I'd like to hear more about the Rangoon Creeper from anyone who grows it. Now I want more of it.
