Taoseeker, this rose is INCREDIBLY fragrant when newly opened. Oklahoma, is beside it and is not as boldly smelly. Spent blooms are moderate or mildly fragrant. Jeri- yes i read your Blue Girl Monster post with great interest. I truly thought this was CL blue moon (offspring of Sterling silver) until i read that yours had stiff tall canes. Until we deadheaded/pruned all the lower roses off this bush, and cleaned out some rusty spots it was pretty uniform and about as tall as wide. Plenty of bloom low down. Roseseeker, i didnt realize even HTs can bloom in sprays. Thanks for informing me that it's not that HTs wont spray like a FL , but rather Floribundas wont long stem. Also- i am unable to see any ash on my cuttings but they traveled in a wet towel. ;-/. Pics coming soon!!

You know, over the years I've grown just about every class of roses in pots from micro minis to climbers and everything in between. I've found that they'll all do pretty well if the pot is big enough and the rose is well cared for. Look for ones that have the best health in your area and you'll do fine. Things to know about potted roses: BIG POTS! The bigger the better and lots of good drainage holes in them. Plastic, resin or foam ones are the best. They hold up the longest and are much lighter weight. Roses in big pots of wet soil are HEAVY! Good quality potting soil. Any kind, crystals or fertilizer, doesn't matter as long as it's a good light mixture and not heavy and clumpy. NEVER use top soil or garden soil. They'll need extra watering because the pots dry out quicker. Because you're doing extra watering the nutrients will flush through quicker so you'll need to fertilize a little more often too. Get pot trolleys to put them on them even if you're POSITIVE you'll never move them. It gets them off the ground so they can drain better and believe me, you will some day need to move them. It always happens. If you have climbers or tall HTs think about getting those small stick in the ground trellises to tie them to. Most of them will fit inside the bigger size pots. If you live in a place that has a lot of wind you may need to find a way to anchor the pots down. With some of the bigger/taller ones I had problems with the wind tipping them over. A big healthy leafy rose acts just like a sail. I found that the squatter pots with wider bottoms are less tippy than the tall ones that are wide at the top and narrow at the bottom. I did one 2 years ago. It was a lot of fun, I got a lot of interesting plants from it. It was also quite a bit of work. I'd be willing to help someone run one, on their property or mine, would rather work with someone than do it all myself. It rained cats-and-dogs the day we did it, and was chilly, but we set up food, etc in garage, and DH ran a heater in there, and we shared umbrellas and made dashes out into the yard to pick plants. We all brought things, set them up, and then round-robined to pick things we wanted. A few people did specific exchanges, set up prior, as well, but I think that the group I had, almost all of whom were new to exchanges, liked being able to pick from everything rather than some things being unavailable to them. It really was a lot of fun, and I would enjoy doing it again. I'm in Chittenango. I accidentally received a bright clear yellow that I gave away since it was supposed to be dark purple. It did not fade and did I say VERY yellow, LOL! I guessed that it was Doris Day and now she's blooming in January inside an office building. I think her warm undertones would work great with orange. Assuming that she is actually Doris, she's related to Julia Child. My favorite yellow for performance and scent has been Lemon Spice but she has cooler undertones so I don't think that she would be the right yellow for your scenario.
