Tiny treasures in my garden

I've been working steadily in my garden this year. I was too broke to have it rototilled, so I've been hand digging the garden which has turned out to be a good thing because otherwise I would have missed some of my tiny treasures (sorry for the long run on sentence!)! First off my Egyptian onions came back that I planted last year. Towards the end of July they looked dead. I thought it was too wet a year for them to take. My Mom, whom I got the plants from, said they were impossible to kill. Turns out she's right! They've multiplied from last year.

Secondly, I planted thyme in the garden last year which I know is suppose to be perennial, but last year being what it was, I didn't have high hopes. Sure enough, I stumbled upon it as I was digging. Glad I reckognized it before I pulled it out as a weed!

This morning I was digging another row and found oregano growing! As it did not do well last year, I wasn't expecting it to make a come back. What a pleasant little surprise!

Anyone else out there find some happy surprises?

A weed to many, but I have several colors of johnny jump-ups popping up...I am going to nuture those tiny treasures, so they grow and multiply!

Last year's pansies in whiskey barrels have self sown in the gravel driveway, each with a different variation of blue and yellow. Nice surprise.

@Mark Biddle, did you read the full thread? As has been clearly pointed out, mushrooms that appear from out of the soil are NOT harmful to growing plants. The mushrooms are the fruiting bodies of naturally occurring fungal organisms that are the decomposers of organic matter or dead plant material. They are everywhere and do not eat "at the garden roots and stems and such" or bother any living plants! There is no need to compost them as they will disappear in a couple of days all on their own. They are the sign of a healthy soil.

Thanks for the idea. I just kept thinking of big containers or wading pools that might have several plants all growing together, but didn't think about a plant in a small container, which keeps the boggy environment. How do you deal with possible tap water getting to it? Eg, if you are watering the plants around it or just in its general direction?

Thanks for the feedback. I've lots of garden friends, but none are "into" conifers, much less dwarf conifers, so I'm grateful for a place like this to share my pleasure in finding them.. These join perhaps 40 or more other dwarf conifers in my garden (along with quite a variety of other plants as I'm not a monoculturist), and aside from the pleasure (and marvel) of their many variations, I am very grateful that most are very drought tolerant, If they have any downside at all, it's that they are quite pricey!

Yesterday I found several seedlings from a perennial salvia that I thought for sure was a goner. SWEET! I am yet another member of the easily amused club.

I found camomile growing in a crack in the patio. Carefully moved it inside to a hanging pot.
