Seeds & Gardening Supplies 2011

The dizzying rush of the holidays (or holi-daze) is now over. With all the cold and snow, I like to start thinking about warmer weather and gardening.

So where have you seen locally, that has started getting their seed and gardening supplies? I know Kinney Drugs has seeds and a few other things. Where else?

I went to Lowes ysterday. They're just starting to get in their seeds. Dickamn's Farms (Auburn) and Chuck Hafners (N. Syracuse) won't be open until mid-March.

True Value Hardware (specifically Nightengales in Marcellus) has seeds in! Sam's Club has their gardening stuff out too.

All right, here they are - my best pictures: Alyssum, which seems to be the only result from throwing a "mixed wildflower" bag The ridiculous petunias, happily crowding the dusty miller and carnations (they already ate a pansy plant): A pink and white daffodil: Snapdragons i thought were done for, came out of nowhere: Lavender Lady. Hellooooooooo!!! Hope everyone is handling this heat quite well! UPDATE on these seeds... Received your seeds Donna just in time for the second shipment to SA. Am also forgeting to acknowledge Carol's lovely deep red/"NOT Pink" Hippie seeds....hundreds of them. Sent are 15 packets of 70 mixed seeds each. Some I had to place in more "exotic seeds" as per request. I still got a few requests here and there to take care of. DIZZY... There were not much cybister seeds received but I am just now harvesting my own crosses. So give me more time and I'll send you some. ARIF...Working on your yellow seeds right now. Pray with me my dear friend. Lots of aborting and rotting seedpods here! Too hot and humid! Some rebloomers... Scadoxus seeds were harvested and will be sent hopefully soon. Clivia seeds will also be sent soon. If we get lucky, we might receive C. robusta seeds also. Please don't contact me now for these seeds. I went back and ordered. Shipping was kinda ka-ka, but I figure I still made out (somehow...considering the price of gas and that there are no seeds available locally this time of year). Funny thing is the receipt they emailed me says, "customer declared exemption from state tax". I don't recall doing that. So shipping was $6.80 (tax would have been-- or will be-- an additional $3.20). Considering the price of gas, yeah, I think I still did okay. I had a big order. They had staples, like Zinnias and Cali Poppies and Alyssum that I always like to have on hand. But definitely, buyer beware on the shipping. I wonder what seed company has the cheapest shipping cost, other than Value Seeds? All of them seem to be pretty scary now. Linda

WalMart usually starts to bring in their supplies around mid Feb. but only the seed starter kits are out so far. I ended up at a local year round nursery to get a small bag of potting soil to start out with until my big tub in the garage thaws out.

I guess by now most everywhere is selling seeds. I saw a seed rack at Price Chopper today. :) I usually order mine through catalogs.
