What are the planting conditions of this plant? Is it in welldraining soil? Are you letting it dry out a bit before watering? how much sun is it getting?

Sunny south window with a fluorescent light supplement. I'm guessing I overwatered it. I soaked the soil after repotting because i saw a leaf begin to brown...maybe that isn't a good idea. Is it typical that overwatered pineapple plants form huge leaves that collapse?

I don't know! Where I live, overwatering a pineapple during the summer is hard to do, it's so dry here. During the winter, you want to cut back anyway.... for tropicals, winter time is the dry season. You might check the roots and see if they're rotting. They really need drainage.

what type of mix is it in? I always plant mine in small pots in a mix of about 2/3 orchid bark and 1/3 soiless potting mix (Like PROMIX). I have not had a problem yet.

I repotted in september because I noticed bad drainage during the summer. The plant thrived, the summer heat probably makes it ok for it to be soggy. It's a couple years old and pretty big (didnt easily fit in the doorwall). The soil is miracle gro potting mix and I added extra perlite.

I had a pineapple plant in a 1 gallon pot, but as it became enourmous it could not stand itself up and tipped over...it was upsetting because it was a sucker from my neighbors' parents' garden in India. Strange things seem to happen to my plants.

I think that you may be overwatering.........

Maybe you damaged it when you brought it inside? if you bent the leaves downward or upward sharply during moving it, then they would be "creased" and droop where they got bent. If that's the case, the newer leaves don't look like that as they grow out. As long as it looks healthy,and it's just a few leaves, then follow their advice-- don't overwater it, and just let it grow. Are you pushing a lot of high nitrogen fertilizer to it; sometimes that makes for weak growth.

It might be heart rot but im not sure, if you show me a picture i will know.

I can only guess, but it seems to me that pineapples do need as much full sun as possible, and without such may develope weather leaves that tend to collapse, but just a guess , since my somewhat young one years ago never did that.

I think it recieves adequate light during the winter with the window and fluorescent grow light. I had collapsing leaves on a plant 6 years ago that was out in mid May when it was rainy and 60 for a good week. Maybe they fill up with too much water? Thanks for posting

my guess is too much water and miracle gro. the fert made the leaves grow big and fat but weak. I'll do things differently with the small one up on the stand behind it.

I have a large indoor plant growing in a south facing window. It too is seemingly very healthy with a dark green color, and the leaves droop under their own weight.

I believe this is due to low light conditions. It has enough light to grow big and healthy, but not quite as much as it would ideally have growing outside under full sun. The plant leaves droop to conserve energy.
