Ficus elastica is a very common houseplant...and there's nothing that comes even close to it in appearance. You'll be able to identify it now in pictures or in person.

Hah, I think I figured this out on my own. Looks like I have Hibiscus 'Rainbow Christie'. Pretty sure. There is an improved variety called 'Over the Rainbow'. I think the mystery may be solved :-) Patty S.
