Best way to taste avocado and mango varieties?
Comments (12)Flfishie - You can not go wrong with the Brogdon avocado, it is a good choice. Here is a ripe Brogdon going to be part of my lunch today On the mangoes it gets difficult to choose, lol. After I went to the tasting at Fairchild, I was confused like when you smell too many perfumes. I do prefer fruits that are small size and have no fiber, so that leaves me with fewer options if it was for me, also I found that is best to sample 1 variety at the time. So everyday I do only 1 mango from the varieties that I took home and here are my new favorites: 1. Alphonso 2. Fairchild 3. Champagne 4. Pairi I still have to sample the others... Comments (22)I bought a 15 gallon (Kona) Sharwil from Atkins Nursery in Fallbrook (CA), They now have two 15 gallon and a number of 5 gallon Sharwils left. They said they do not ship 5/15 gallon trees because of the weight and the Avocado is too sensitive to do bare root shipments. They seemed to be nice people to deal with and they give a 1-year warranty on their trees. I do have one concern. Most of the other 15 gallon Avocados were bearing fruit while the Sharwils were not. The Sharwils have flowers that had dried up and are crumbling. Does anyone know anything about that? I would like to know if that indicates that there will be a problem with the flowers in the future; I would like to know the answer to that before I plant the tree. I want to do a little more investigating of Mangos before deciding which one I want and going to visit Ong Nursery. Thanks for letting me know about Ong....See Morewhich is the best country for a mango lover?
Comments (8)" ......lifestyle is quite cheap, with tons of mango trees and street markets...." India would be your best choice, they have very high quality mangos, and it would meet your other criteria as well. In the tropics mangos are a winter/spring crop, in the colder areas they're a summer crop. And of course the best quality is in the winter/spring fruit. In Australia you'll get the best quality as well, but certainly not a cheap country to live in, especially the Northern Territory....See MoreBest Late Mango
Comments (19)Keitts from Mexico are available at Publix right now and labeled as such. Best mango I have ever had from a grocery store (not saying much). I'd give it a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Valencia Pride I rate at & 7.5 to 8 for comparison. Other posters are right that Keitt has a simple uncomplicated mild sweet mango flavor with maybe a hint of pineapple. It's a very agreeable sweet mild tasty mango, but it won't knock your socks off the way some other great varieties will. Tho when it comes to late varieties (Sept+) the choices are much more limited and you can't be quite can't be as choosy. Keitt is a better backyard tree as it has a rather scraggly haphazard appearance....See MoreEggo
