Best Mangoes For Pots
Comments (6)Last year I started experimenting/trying to grow mangoes in pots in my zone. So far I have Manila, Julie, Young (aka Tebow), Graham, Glenn, Valencia Pride, Lancetilla, Pickering, Carrie and Southern Blush. They're all still alive and so far Manila seem to show the best growth but its also my first tree, so it may simply have a head start compared to my other trees. From my current observations for the zone I'm in, vigorous mango trees seem to grow as slow as a dwarf variety. This is because the evenings here are rather cool. My newbie recommendation would be to choose the mango variety you personally like (and possibly eaten) and go with that. I will also suggest looking through the forums here on soilless potting mediums and other forum user's experiences with pruning. The bonsai group also has good information. Good luck....See MoreBest Mango Source Online?
Comments (7)Top Tropical has the best price for trees and shipping. They rootball their trees which lowers the weight and therefore lowers shipping. Some people have had bad experiences with them and other have been very happy with their trees and packaging. I am getting trees from them tomorrow. I have my fingers crossed. It is my understanding that in general Pine Island has the smallest trees. I don't know this first hand it is just what I have read here. Comments (0)All these Mangos are COMMONLY named as being the #1 Best. Give each one a score of 1-10 and whether you think it is better than the Carrie or not. May the best Mango win. Personal preferences aside, there are probably only 5-10 or so Mangos that "COMMONLY" get named as being the #1 best tasting. Carrie is probably the BEST tasting Mango that has been the most widely "sampled" by a lot of Mango lovers that they have tasted at least once and that also often gets top billing. Many people have never had the opportunity to taste an Edwards, Maha Chinook or Lemon Zest, etc. Using Carrie as the base and assuming Carrie is a "9" how do these other Mango's rate that are also COMMONLY listed as being "the best" or peoples favorite compare to Carrie? Please give each one a numerical score and whether they are better or worse than Carrie. The only thing that you're grading on is flavor nothing else. Edwards - 2. Carrie - 9 (when properly ripened) 3. Maha Chinook - 4. Lemon Zest - 5. Coconut Cream - 6. Kent - 7. Other - ??
