Hi, I have a plant that is at least 15 years old. My mother grew it from seed and it did bloom for her 8-10 years ago. She passed away in '01. All I knew was it liked to be pot-bound. I'ts still alive and puts out new leaves when I trim the old ones. The soil is very compacted and I don't know what to do now. It is in a 12" plastic pot with 7 clusters of at least five fronds. Four of those clusters are close together; two are a few inches to one side of the cluster. I've removed a couple of inches of the soil to see what's what. The soil I removed is a rich, dark soil, but the compaction goes all the way down the pot. What do I do to keep from losing my Mom's favorite plant?
