If you've good the room in the garden, go for it! In fact, even if you don't have the room, go for it! You'll certainly get more than $4 worth of tomatoes, plus you'll torture yourself if you don't!

I also chose German Head this year based on Caroline's description, and had to squeeze in another row to accommodate it. I'm growing it with Brandywine, Brandywine Red, Opalka, Martini's Roma, and Mama Leone.

Caroline's book sure gets a workout here!

OK, if you really want it then get it from Sandhill Preservation where a pack of seeds is $2 and small orders under $10 add $2 for shipping, so same as you mentioned above,and for orders over $10 no shipping charge.

And with about 400 tomato varieties listed I bet you get the no shipping charge if you bought just a few more packs of seed. And Sandhill is the only place I know of where no tomato seeds sold are over two years old, which is really quite remarkable considering the large number of growouts needed each year to do that and I can't say that about many other seed sources.

OK, so I'm an enabler, I mean why not grow lots and lots of different tomato varieties each year. LOL

The German Head seeds Glenn offers are from ones I sent him quite a few years ago. And you might want to check the webpage to be sure that German Head is still in stock. And most seed places right now are running behind schedule, as I'm sure you're aware of.

But entirely your choice as to which vendor you want to use, and yes I know your other vendor as well.

I can tell from your post that the real problem is you don't have room for any more mater plants. I'll bet you've already chosen too many plants. You are going into a tomato frenzy with all those luscious descriptions......pinks, reds, purples, yellows, greens......juicy, robust, smokey, delightful, flavorful, tangy...... all that tomato porn is getting to you.

You can't think rationally. Let me help you. Repet after me: "I do not have room for any more tomatoes". Just back away slowly. Just remember, there's always next year.

You'll find Tania's link in that Google Search as well as several other sources, but it's good to remember that many excellent seed sources are not scanned by Google, such as mariseeds, Sandhill,rareseeds ( I think) and several others.

As I implied above, there are several sources for German Head seeds, but I'm not one of them. LOL

Do you see the problem? They're all great. I want to taste them all - the closest I've ever knowingly got to actually tasting an heirloom tomato was an UglyRipe from Stop and Shop! So I'm going crazy. I have already booked a guy to help me dig an entirely new bed in April which will expand me from 8 plants to 20, but that's really all I can do.

Any advice is welcome, as long as it doesn't require my obtaining more seed. If I email you asking for any more seed, just gently say no, or that you will send it to me in the fall. I need a 12 step program.

I used to have a couple of hundred varieties ahead each year and just had to keep sowing seed, raising plants, saving seed, recording data for many years. ( smile)

You have seed for Cherokee Purple and you aren't growing it? Big mistake! I would never go without CP in my yard. You need to have at least one. I think Ugly Ripe is a marmande. Isn't that right guys? From what I've read , it's a good producer. I don't know if I would grow 2 of those instead of a different variety. Maybe you could plant one Cherokee purple and just one Marmande. Just a suggestion.

Just a suggestion: both Sophie's Choice and Bloody Butcher can easily be grown in relatively small (say 5 gallon) containers. Sophie's Choice is a very small plant. If necessary, I'd drop Siletz for Bloody Butcher. That frees up 2 garden spots for Cherokee Purple and Earl's Faux.

I thought because I have Indian Stripe that it would be too similar to Cherokee Purple?

Personally, I would drop the Siletz. Out of all the tomatoes I have grown (100+ varieties over the years) that one is at or near the very bottom of my list of what I like. (But right now I would almost kill for one since I am at least 3 weeks away from starting my seeds!)

I came across a picture of this tomato (German Head) while surfing seed websites. I was stunned ! This is the closest thing I have seen to the tomato I have looked for for so long. Said to be a pink, the picture I saw looked orange to me.

There wasn't much of a write up about this German Head so I did a Google and made my way here where so many are saying they are GOING to try them but no follow ups on how they turned pout. (On site search turned up nothing)

So I'm asking..LOL How did they turn out ? Details about taste IE sweet sour, strong bland etc would be very nice.
