I bought a Giant Belguim tomatoe plant and wondered (after-the-fact) how it will grow 4-5 lb. tomatoes without snapping the plant in half. I've used baskets, stakes and ties before with 1 lb. toes and still had some branches get bent and "cut-off". Any suggestions? Don't worry about it Jon b'c that variety has had the same wrong fruit size blurb at almost every place where seeds/plants are sold. You aren't going to get 4-5 # tomatoes, rather something in the 1-2# range which is standard for many beefsteak varieties. I'm wondering why folks posting here don't post in the main Growing Tomatoes Forum where heirlooms are discussed in great detail. I'd say 99% of all info for them is over there, and not here. And I suggest going there b'c that's where you're going to get the greatest input on anything related to heirloom tomatoes at GW. Carolyn

I am super sorry. I have no idea what has happened to your package- it didn't even have that far to go, it seems. I am unsure what I can do to fix the issue but will do whatever it takes. I worked pretty hard on the swap and don't feel like I did anything in my control to cause your disappointment but I will do whatever I can to make it up to you. I can go purchase some seeds to send to you? Or send you the ones that I got out of the swap that I have not yet began sprouting? I also got a couple of packets of native american seeds I can send you? Let me know what you think is fair and again, I greatly apologize. I did try to do my best to make everyone happy with their loot.

There is no such thing as a pest-resistant tomato whether hybrid or heirloom. It sounds like tomato fruitworms caused the holes in your tomatoes. The little bugs crawling there came later. The good news, the most effective control for them is an organic, biological spray. It is most commonly sold under the brand name Dipel or Thuricide. Were the tomatoes that rotted sitting on the ground? If so, soil rot is common. Caging or staking will reduce the problem.

Thanks gourd and timbersmith. I had not really thought about them being late until I received a trade package of seeds from Canada last week that was mailed about 2 weeks later than the tomatoes were. Different POE's may have longer delays than others. Perhaps this will be our week! Alana
