I'm so stir crazy

I know we need all this rain but I'd about to climb the walls! My daylilys have been standing in water for the better part of the last month, the wind had knocked over 2 of my dahlias and just wrecked my bells of Ireland and cosmos. I'm ready for it to let up a bit so i can get back into my yard.

Angie, lol I think most of us are feeling that way, at least scuba-gal is prepared if it doesn't stop, LOL

It is a challenge this year, isn't it?? However, last year at this time I was exhausted from dragging hoses around, so if it doesn't rain for 40 days and 40 nights, I am okay with it. DH is ready for me to be able to get outside though - says I get a LITTLE frustrated when I am locked in so long. LOL.

Oh my gosh. My order from Rockytop just arrived in my afternoon mail. First off I was surprised at the really big box as I had only ordered 15 iris and that included the 5 Special Bonus that you qualify for when buying anything else. I bought 4 of their 2010 intros- BLUEBERY FUDGE MAGNIFICENT MASTERPIECE BEVS BABE BACKDRAFT Six others of various year intros- POLESTAR CABERET ACT DONACHCLONEY FABULOUS ONE MAGICAL REALISM PERRYMONT I got 6 extra special bonus iris even thought I only qualified for 5. He had told me they were out of the first i choose so I picked an alternate. But both my original choice and the alternate are both in here. I have- LAKE TANEYCOMO ROYAL VESTMENTS MACHERALON JAMAICAN BREW SURFERS DREAM BEWITCHING HOUR Then there are 8 more bonus iris. I haven't even gotten a chance to look them up yet. I have only afew and I mean afew single rhizomes and those are quite large. Many doubles and those are larger than other places sending singles and almost as large as the singles. Then some are triple rhizomes and some clumplets were they are all attached and some have even more babies coming out of the sides. Also large. Not like he needed to send the doubles or more bewcause they are small, they are not small at all. So now I know why he needed the really large box. I will be taking pictures of some of these and will have more to say about all the extras. I am simply astounded at what I recieved today. Just unbelievable. You couldn't do better. I have never seen anything like it. Just past fabulous. I am really happy to say the least :-))

Crazy nesting season I'm having!!!!

What a story, ohsoblue. I've also had a crazy season. I had a bluebird box in my backyard with no activity, so I put up another bluebird box out of sight on the side yard. Chickadees started nesting there and there was a beautifully built nest of green moss. I couldn't see inside the nest to see if there were any eggs, but soon it didn't matter. We were out working in the yard and there was a lot of commotion amongst the birds. The chickadee was trying to fight off the bluebirds for her nest and kept on trying and trying. The male bluebird actually took over the nest and built his own for his ladybird. So then by the next day when I checked there was a bluebird nest on top of the neatly built moss nest. This is the box where there are five nestling bluebirds about to fledge any day. So then the chickadee went to be bluebird box in the backyard and built another nest and laid eggs quite quickly. Another bluebird pair kept going back to this box and sitting on it, watching over it, etc. So I begged my hubby to put up another nest box in the front yard and maybe they'd find it and use it. So we got the other house up and eventually they found it and it took about a month for Mr. BB to convince the timid ladybird to take it, but I checked last week and there was 2 eggs. I checked again yesterday after getting back into town and there were 5 bb eggs and 1 chickadee egg, which I removed because I didn't want there to be any problems with the chickadees again.v The bluebirds are watching over this box and seem to be very comfortable and I haven't seen any sign of chickadees in this nest again, but I'll keep checking. Do not give up hope because it took the bluebirds a number of weeks to decide to build in the new nest box in the front yard, but they are doing very well so far. I'm anxious to see if there are any chickadee eggs in the first nest the bluebirds built on top of that one. I'm very surprised that the bluebirds did that.

I can't wait to see pictures of Maggie. Love the name. If you wanted to try another DA rose, I have had great success with Pretty Jessica which laughs at the heat, is upright and stays small but tall for a DA rose. I would say mine is about two to three feet wide, if that and about four to five feet tall. Constant bloomer. Next one would be Princess Alexandra of Kent but give her room to grow. She is a beaut! Flowers bigger than my hand in spring and fall. Smaller flowers in the heat. She takes a beating and keeps on ticking! Next would be Munstead Wood. Love, love, loveo him. He also takes the heat. All three have to be the best DA roses I have seen for the heat. Now, that being said, my first timer roses that have been in the ground about six months (if that) and on their own roots, that seem to be doing pretty well for me are also Lady of Shalott and Alwick. They are both babies and being subject to full sun all day long and until this week, 100--110 degree heat. Both are producing sporadically with tiny flowers but their leaves look good and they are continuing to put on new growth. I think once they get established in a couple of years, they will be fine. I hope Lady's flowers tone down the orange a bit in the future. Another rose, still very young and on its own root that seems to be doing well is Occhi di Fata. It is starting to put out a few more blooms and the growth is good. It is a charming rose and I hope for great things in the future.

UPDATE: Thanks to you guys here (and mostly thanks to Joseph Corlett's link regarding Silestone slab sizes), they agreed to do away with one of the seams. They kept insisting that they would not do a stretch of stone more than 110", and when I insisted that my color of Silestone comes in jumbo slabs of 128", they "did some research" and conceded that I was correct, and there is no need for two seams in my 150" stretch of counter. I'm updating here for anyone who may have the same questions and issues that I did. I spent countless hours researching and digging and arguing, so hopefully I can save someone else the hassle. You can check the Silestone website for the slab sizes in your color. There is no need for a seam to "prevent cracks"; Silestone is (allegedly) 4x bendier than granite, and if you wanted to put the whole damn slab down you could. Keep in mind though - if your Silestone DOES crack or chip at some point (and it will...it's notorious for chipping despite the durability claims) - you're on the hook for it. Their "warranty" does not cover cracks or chips. Hundreds of consumers have told their stories about bumping a water glass against the edge and it chips, with no damage to the glass, and Cosentino denies the claims, citing abuse of the counter or something. Same with random cracks, etc. Just be aware - these are issues that you will have to call Joseph Corlett to come fix, out of your own pocket. I love the look of mine so I'm willing to deal with those issues, but buyer beware.

My neighbor decided to change the grade of his yard. As a result one area of my front yard and the adjoining neighbor's yard is always under water when we get hard rains. I don't want to spend the money right now having it remedied. I was thinking about putting in a French drain. Anyway, I ended up planting things there that like lots of water. And the surprising thing is that the Swamp Rose that I planted there last summer has managed to survive even with being under water for a week at a time. Now it hasn't bloomed much this spring (it's a once a year spring bloomer), but then it hasn't died. And my cannas and irises are really going to town. Finally, I've found something that likes rain!

We got 2 1/2" of rain down here over the weekend.

Good I'm not alone in feeling this way. This weekend was leaving me fit to be tied. Tired of doing inside chores, tired of being cooped up in the house. Every chance I get in between rain fall I've gone outside to do a little work cause it's getting ahead of me or just do a walk around the yard to get outside. When I go out in the evening the skeeters have been so bad they run me back inside. Me and my flowers need some sunshine :)
DH and I did go see Georgia Rule, it was pretty good.

Here, Here..Me too! I hate sitting all day in a cooped up office looking out the windows (thank God we have windows) but seeing how beautiful it is outside and wishing I was home getting to enjoy it..
Well I took a 4 day weekend, and it rained the whole time..DH sent me to our room to watch gardening shows..LOL...I was miserable...
Im looking out the windows at work now and seeing all this beautiful sunshine! I know it prob. won't last but I sure wish I was at home to enjoy this tiny bit!

French drains are EASY to install. If you can garden you can install one. A cheaper and easy way to get excess water off the property (at least a suburban property I don't know about acreage!) PJ

Angie, I know how you feel. I go outside with my umbrella a lot and when the rain stops for an hour or two I feel just like a kid who gets to go out and play. lol

Jolana, What kind of flooring are you having put in?
i need to clean my carpets - but not worth the effort until the rain stops - my kids are tracking all kinds of spots in.

Oh that will be nice for clean ups - a few years back we put ceramic tile in the kitchen and dining area - i like the look but hate to clean it. Sweeping is not the same with the grout lines and cleaning the grout (even after it was sealed) is a pain. I like quick and fast clean ups.

Wowee y'all, and I thought I was losing it, rofl!

DS just showed up with a bunch of other teenagers in the highlights of angst. Let's hope the rain holds off or one or more of them may fill up from all the peircing holes.
What exactly is the secret to surviving raising teens, can't seem to find valium in a salt lick form to get me through the summer.

Mine are 17, 13, & 9...no tatoos or peircings YET - but that 17yr old boy will be of legal age soon -YIKES!

Uh oh, now I feel bad.............. mine does not any holes that he wasn't born with(that I know of,lol). They all are good kids, Yes M'am me and are always respectful,just hard not to stare at that thing hanging out of the eyebrow. One has a nose stud...another "don't look at it" kind of thing. They even rushed around helping me clean up my gardening mess before the storm hit. They eat like monsters, act tough but so far an ok crowd. Just need the crowd to move on to the next feeding site, and not talk to my daughter. The DH is fading fast with the teen thing, more grays and a pinched look on his face for hours if one of the boys asks how old she is.

Daughter @ 15 had a bandaide wrapped around her nose...I asked "what happened"..she said the "dog" jumped up on her........LATER...found out....nope!! nose ring...MADE her take it out.....FAST FWD...She is 22...has a nose "stud"?..tiny...grrrr What can I say now???..BOTH of my "SWEET CHILDREN"!..have tongue pierceings..ack!!! DO NOT SHOW IT TO ME!!!!!!
Both have A FEW (Thank God!) tatoos!!!..I realize times change..but sheshh..I TRY TO TELL them...THEM NEEDLES ARE NOT CLEAN..DOING THE TATOOS!!!! .. ACK!!!
YET...my son is so proud of the 3 He has......he proclaims...""I DESIGNED THEM MYSELF..TO REPRESENT, MY UNCLE WHO DIED( an Angel)..AND MY 'PAPA' (who has Alzheimers) ITS a CROSS THAT IS CRISS-CROSSED...GO FIGURE!!!
Ok..what about the play boy bunny on your calf??...

Anybody got a boat? It has rained every day, in May. My plants are pleading "enough"!

I leave all the strange things kids do, to you folks that have 'em. I am just as happy I don't got 'em.

Nope, don't gotta worry 'bout a poodle coming home with a tattoo or a boyfriend if you got her fixed! They do tattoo permanent ID in some dog's ears but that's not quite the same somehow! LOL!

The sun came out so we all went outside an played in the sunshine. I did some garden work too and now I'm all tuckered out. PJ

I'm in the same boat as you.....My DD begged for me to let her get a TATTOO at the age of 12....Of course I said NO WAY ...but then I guess I said the WRONG thing afterwards????
Told her she could do whatever she wanted to do once she was an adult. But I did think WHEW I don't have to worry about the TATTOO thing anymore she's in her early 20's and no TATTOO.......Great she hit's mid 20's MOM GUESS WHAT I GOT.......Oh goody what is it.....A BIG BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY TATTOO ON MY DERRIERE.....Oh goodness she's gone mad, along came the Tough Piercing. Then ANOTHER TATTOO BUT THIS ONE'S ON THE FRONT, CHEST WITH THOSE TRIBAL WRITING AND A BUTTERFLY IN THE CENTER.....SO MUCH FOR GIVING BIRTH TO A BEAUTIFUL BABY WITH A NEAR PERFECT BODY.
My Stepson has done the same thing only he has LARGE HOLES IN HIS EARS with a ton of earrings on his ears, and some Tattoos too.
