Coastal SoCal - 'June glom' and how to survive?

Hi, we live about a mile from the coast in southern California, near San Diego. The months of May and June are famous around here for what's called "May gray," and "June gloom." Day after day of completely overcast skies and temps in the mid 60s (F) -- it can go on for weeks. Anyone who has lived here knows what I'm talking about. Quail Botanical Gardens is having a their "11th Annual Herb Festival Spring Plant Sale & Tomatomania," plant sale next weekend. So I'll have my plants then. If anyone here has experience growing tomatoes in this climate, I'd love to hear tips on how to get the little guys through the upcoming months until we start getting solid sun in, say, July.
