David Austin rose lovers alert!
Comments (16)Love the photo of graham thomas, my favorite too. I love how it fades out to that lovely buttercream shade. Rather than dingey cream like so many yellow roses. And that tea scent. He is surprisingly hardy here in zone 5 with minimal (leaf mounds) protection. My repeat is better with some than others. Although it is a blessing in disguise, we have sporadic rebloom in mid July/August because the reblooms just attract more japanese beetles here anyway. The austins come back into their own during cool weather of autumn here where the colors are more clear. The buds often freeze on the plant they bloom so long. Heritage is the only one that blooms all summer long, and of course, the beetles get the buds if I don't cut them and bring them in. Which that variety opens quite nicely indoors and doesn't shatter as quickly if you pick while in "almost open" bud stage....See MoreList of no-spray Hybrid Tea's
Comments (5)Interesting post L. I have little in common with the bay area but in my garden these HT's have shown a remarkable disease resistance when I fail to spray (and we get both PM and BS here): *Secret (white) *Lady Mitchell (red) *Falling in Love-pink (only 2 years old so take that with a grain of salt) *Golden Fantasie ( pale-medium yellow) Good thoughts on grafted vs own root. However, in my area there are so many other things that can kill a rose in 15 years (like RRD, floods, ice storms, tornadoes etc). If a rose survives that long it's a miracle in itself. Sure there's the chance of RMV, but it's not fatal and I've had/still have 10+ year old roses putting along with it. The growers do seem to be dealing with it, and I ask why waste time dealing with a twiglet when I can enjoy the rose blooms years earlier with grafted. I ain't getting any younger....See MoreDiamond Jubilee tea
Comments (6)Since it's the first of the month and my pension check came, I went to Harney's site to order the tea. It's temporarily unavailable because there were so many requests for it! Bummer. I sent them an email to be put on an "alert" list whenever they get more....See MoreRed diamond tea
Comments (5)Do not drink this tea! Some jugs of it in Texas are turning out to be contaminated with toxic chemicals found in the production of crude oil to gasoline. These chemicals when ingested or inhaled can cause seizure, coma and death.
