Conversations Area for This Forum?

HiYa.

There are quite a few other GW forums that have an off-topic Conversations Forum such as the Orchids or Florida forums.

Would the Tropical people be interested in having such a forum tacked on to this one? I would think that the banana people, the brommie folks, the ginger people, et al. people could all join in the Conversations area and have a light hearted exchange of topics other than planty things?

I know that recently there was an Asia Gardening forum added on. I thought this might be an interesting addition too.

Opinions?

Since I am very frequently on this forum (as well as gingers, broms, nanners and "Tropical Balmy Florida where we are going to freeze out collective rear ends off Friday and Saturday", I think its a great idea

Hi Tisha! Most of the oldies moved on when GW changed their policies about posting pictures. If any of you want to know where the "other" forum is send me an email through my GW profile. I don't want to get banned for advertising. I must warn you, the HP forum isn't as busy as this one, but we all do post a lot on the C&S forum there. Maybe with some more oldies from GW there it would pick up, hint, hint, :) :) It seems that there are less beginner questions, and very few arguements about care, which is always nice. on a side note I am checking in from San Diego, where I got to meet Cena for the first time yesterday at the SDES pre-show sale and the SDCSS meeting right next door :)

Well.....I am in my 3rd month of my first Round Robin (Secret Pal for a year) and already have next months box packed for my Secret Pal. I have to share my wonderful surprise today! I went to WallyWorld and at the very top of the plant sections were all kinds of BEAUTIFUL African Violets (my Secret Pal saves these and I found some AWESOME African Violet pots at Marden's for $1.99 each). Anyways, I couldn't see the very top of the plant shelf as I'm a 5'4" Maine Polar Bear *lol* so I went to the patio furniture dept. and grabbed a plastic lawn chair. When I stood up on the chair I was amazed at the beautiful varieties that were there. I carefully picked out the 4 best ones but didn't see a price. When I was leaving the garden section an employee was lingering about so I asked her "how much are these"......guess what she said?.......$1.94!!!! I was tickled pink! I have found some of the cutest things for my Secret Pal! I think I get more excited shopping for her than I do receiving from my Secret Pal. Everytime I come home from the store hubby will say......"whose that for"? I reply....My Secret Pal. He says....."wish I were your Secret Pal" *lol*. Yesterday in the car we were talking and he told me about the computer stuff he bought (didn't understand half of what he said but nodded and ummmm hummmmed along)......I thought this would be a good time to tell him....Guess what? I joined another Secret Pal today *lol*. He took it well, better than I thought he would *lol*. Hubby and I were neighbors since we were 12 years old. We were always best friends but I didn't want to ruin the friendship by being boyfriend/girlfriend. At 22 we were married and have been married for 13 years. We have a 15 1/2 year old son (hubby adopted him as his father gave him up without seeing him....a blessing in disguise) and an 11 year old girl. We have 1 cat who thinks he's human and loves to follow me around the gardens. I have recently updated my "ME" page here so check it out as it has a picture of Kazz on it. I LOVE it here and have met some of the very nicest people in the world. I am addicting to trading plants and wake up each morning with a cup of coffee and the forums. I think a conversation link would be great as I don't see much "conversations" going on in the actual "exchange" Round Robin threads. Nice to chat w/cha all. Kim

I think you'll find that the Kitchen Table is a fun diversion. Like Gina said, nothing to do with kitchens, but it's a nice group who share lots of things, from family and work, to cars or sharing fun websites or games or whatever. Just like visiting with some old friends. Gina's right, that most forums have their own flavor, and you know most of the people who frequent them. Well there boys and girls it seems like a mute point with all the changes to the entire GW site in the last few days. It was a great idea though.

I found an interesting discussion about the log-in problems and membership changes in the Orchids Forum of GW.

Good point Bob. I have had a helluva time logging in. I tried to use any "help" features that GardenWeb has to offer, but ended up in a cycle of pre-programmed "FAQ" and "Instructions for using the forum". I then tried the "Contact us" feature, which gives only a page of advertising. In fact, I don't believe we have any method of "contacting" the website managers now do we? Thanks to the folks at "i Village" or whoever took over the site last year, GardenWeb is becoming very frustrating and user unfriendly.

They also seem to have changed their privacy policy in a most negative way.

Obviously Big Brother no longer has the time to monitor what's going on in the forums. I've tried 'Contact Us' twice without so much as a "Take a hike". This almost feels like we're back in school with a substitute teacher. It seems we could start a 'Conversation' forum within any forum and no one upstairs at iVillage would give a rat's.....

kayjones, i was lost in cyberspace. No, I actually did some real travel. In fact I was very near some of you folks (Houston/LA) in May/June last year.

I think this is a great idea. I am in this forum often to get info. on many tropical plants that don't have thier own forum.

Tell me, everyone, I have been just lurking here for awhile, how do you "get" them to do something like that? We've been wanting an "exchange" area on Oklahoma Gardening for a few years now, but haven't been able to persuade anyone. How do you go about it when you don't get a response?
