You will *probably* need to replant. However, some people have had luck with them returning here. I suppose it'll depend on how tough our winter is, and what your particular microclimate is like.

In grad school, I lived in South Knoxville fairly close to the lake and my landlord loved lantanas. He had two that he had trained to be four foot tall standards and at least six that he kept low. They all were moved into his greenhouse every winter. He had pots sunk in the ground for them to move into in spring and same size pots for their rootballs to move into in the greenhouse in late fall.

Drats... I've piled up some mulch at their base hoping that they will freeze back, but only to the roots.

I'm also looking forward to how my Knock Out Roses will do in th winter! (do they lose their leaves?)

I have had 3 'Miss Huff' lantana plants for 5 years (I think). Each fall when the first freeze is expected, I pile pine needles around the base and inbetween the branches close to the crown. I have not lost one yet. 'Miss Huff' is the only one that I know of that is marginally hardy in my area (middle TN). I cut the dead branches back in the spring. They are now blooming profusely and are about 4' tall and at least that wide. My mother lives in the western part of East TN and she had about half of her lantanas survive a couple of winters ago with no protection. Last winter when they had extra mulch, they died. Go figure!!!

I have about 20 Knock Out roses and they do fine here in middle TN with no protection. Mine had never lost their leaves until after the big freeze this past spring.

I am in west Tn. Mine have come back year after year. All I do is cut them back after first freeze. Then mulch.
