OT--- What to do Without Granny

She just left today and I am having withdrawn symptoms already. Maybe EG could be a stand in for six mounts. Of coarse, he would have to get a little bit nuttier than he is now. He could also get a second account on GW with a user name like Granniesantics. What do you think?

I'm feeling pretty chipper these days, my daughter is here with me now...yay! I may hafta get this forum a little bit wound up during granny's absence. Reckon I got a few crazy ideas in my brain? Hee Hee

We are seeing the effects at the shop already of people on fixed incomes especially the elderly. Its terrible. People come in needing the a/c fixed in the car and look so sad when you tell them the cost. We help them out as much as we can and have gotten more into the barter system like the old days and trade work for work we need done when we can but we still have overhead costs to pay to stay in business. This one lady came in today and had paid someone $1500 to replace her entire a/c system and it still didn't work. She said it worked for about an hour. John checked it and they didn't put in a seal which caused a massive leak and she probably only needed one part to make it work to begin with and definitely not an entire system. I hate seeing people get ripped off. She had used her income tax rebate and stimulus money to fix what she had done already so we helped her out and she will come pay us later for the freon. I hope things don't get so bad that I can't continue to help the occasional person and that we don't end up getting messed over by people because they have to have repairs and just don't have the money. Its sad times and you are right going to get worse. I just went and read the thread about show yourself again and laughed so hard. That was a really fun thread. Sometimes if you think about it too much it makes it worse and you just have to find something to laugh about. I will look and see if I have anymore veggie seeds Marion. I need to plant another crop of squash as well since only one of Johns kind came up since the seeds are getting old. I sent most of the veggie seeds out at Christmas. I wish I could still have the energy for a big garden and to put it all up canning and freezing. I love fresh veggies.

The washer dryer decision last year was more painful than the WHOLE KITCHEN! I ended up with stacked Frigidarie Infinity., there was a special price3. The Europeans were too much, especially since they don't last the 20 plus years that my giant old Maytags in the basement have. They are still going strong but I have probelems with the narrow twisting stairs down there. I too wanted to put the new ones on the 2nd floor where the bedrooms are, but worried about the vibrations on my beautiful old plaster walls. ( I wanted a FL because of the water savings here in CA) I actually love havintg them by the kitchen, makes doing laundry much easier since that the room I spend the most time in! Mine doesn't really do loads as big as my old Maytags and because of where we had to put them they are a PITA to ever get unstacked! So I continue to do heavy rugs and blankets that create lots of fuzz in the basement. But the the Frigidaires are fine, and I love using less water. The dryer settings are less flexible than my Maytag, but I am figuring it out.

Sorry Mindstrong, you don't know what you are talking about---but I do. The majority of the "big dogs" use Canon. LOL!!!! What "big dogs" do you know? Apparently, they are not as big as you think they are. LOL!! Many National Geographic photographers still shoot with FILM cameras, which are much different than DIGITAL cameras--and they shoot in chrome. And, the ones who shoot digital, shoot with Canon. The archival aspects of the present digital process prevent many photographers from using digital when they don't have astringent deadlines. Sad to say, but, National Geographic photographers are not" cutting edge" by any means. Most are very traditional, which means, NIKON. No "trash talking" here. When the staffs of The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, Boston Globe and every other major newspaper use Canon, you know Canons are the best, otherwise, why would they risk shooting with inferior hardware, like the horrible Nikon system? The difference between Nikons and Canon is well documented in professional circles. Ask any "real" professional and they will tell you that Nikon sold-out to the amateur ranks many years ago, that Canons are the best. Most magazine photographers are contract photographers or freelancers and 80 percent of them use Canon. I know what I'm talking about: I'm one of them. Canon digitals are the best in the consumer market too!

ahhh,, they'll grow anywhere as long as you get the right ones, LOL and as long as you bring them in, i had one last year, made it all winter long, ok, lets get this from the beginning, got it in the spring, had it all summer, brought it in in the fall, just befor the last frost, and had it in all winter long, just befor the last frost, talla sprayed it and i sprayed it, only i didn't know she also did, well, that killed the little bugar, and it had rotted the stem, i didn't even think about taking it out and trying to see if i could rescue the roots, i'm usually like that, but this was my first banana tree, that had lived all thru the winter, so i was so heart broken, LOL now this one will be, hopefully. only i've gotten it up higher so i can only be the one to water it and do any thing to it, she can sing to it anytime she wants!! LOL i do believe in pushing the zones as much as i can, though!! **grinn** from my goldfish plant, to my banana plant, to my brugs, and datura's they are all in the house, but come spring, when the last frost is here, out they will go, when i'm very sure i can trust in the last frost, not when "they" say it is, LOL **Grinn** on those type of things, all containers though. i truely don't believe we are a zone 6 cuz it gets very cold in the winter here!! BRRRRRRR!!!! ~Medo who so badly wants to move to oregon, my bro lives there!! of course it helps so does the baby neice and his wonderful wife!! **smile**

ok any idea's on getting a stubborn 6yr old to read? she can spell really good, just won't/cant read. for some reason she just doesn't retain that stuff. but will retain anything else like an elephant!! LOL oh ya, she has a stubborn streak like you would not believe!! ok done with that part!! LOL
hubs took an extra shift at work. soooooo i think its cuz he knew i was gonna bring more plants in, since he told me about the 28 degree's tonight. well, so my house is even fuller than you'd believe!! i know that guy must love the heck outta me!! **big smile**

and you all know what? i have these old fashioned petunia's i got in a trade, they're vining, and have veigns, well they were supposed to have a smell, all summer long i never smelled anything, we brought it in and i;m smelling this smell, quite good actually, so i'm sniffing around the house, because its not in one place. well........i finally end up smelling the petunia's....BINGO!!! they smell kinda like the hyacinth but not nearly as strong and really good!! so i'm definately keeping seeds from these babies and gonna try to see if i can grow them in the house!! i LOVE LOVE fragrance!! if ya'll want seeds, just let me know, i'll send ya some they're just pretty!! so i'm guessing they're a night smeller!! ~Medo

Hey, you guys quit having so much fun without me! I'm not going to be gone from here for 6 months...just won't be making many garden posts.

I have an intermittent WIFI connection as of this afternoon. The signal strength is very low, so often I can't connect, but I'll keep trying.

Aww, EG...I hope you feel better soon (Granny kisses to make it better). I'm sweltering in this heat, in the 90s today, unpacking and getting stuff set up it was miserable. And I'm so tired. Maybe we'll both feel better tomorrow. The only place I can get a WIFI signal is in the front bedroom, so I have the laptop on the bed and I'm kneeling on the floor next to the bed...not real comfy, but I have the fan blowing directly on me so I'm cool now. Mr. H hates air conditioners, so I try to bear it as long as it's under 100F.

I'm a bit jealous of your 90 degrees! I'll bet you miss our lovely green trees. Good to hear from you Granny. I hate ac, too, but when it hits more than 90, I get weaker about it.

Yay! Granny's back(ish)! I just knew you couldn't stay off the computer for 6 months. Muahahahaha!

Next you'll be temming us how you made some SWCs to plant tomatoes and peppers in the winter and are growing bunny greens in the bathtub hehe.

Enjoy yourself and it's 50 and overcast here, so you're not missing much.

Though I'm going to Spokane next week for work. I may fly over your house. Gonna be cold! I'll think of you in the hot Arizona sun. That'll help.

Hi Granny! I'm glad you made it safely. I've been thinking a whole lot about you lately. You're such a dear to me.

Hello everyone! (Didn't want you all to feel left out or anything! LOL)

I am trying to catch up from my recent trip to the hospital again with Hannah. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

She is doing SO much better and so am I, actually! I have my sweetpea feeling as good as possible right now, and I have a clean house for like the first time in a year or what have you. I'm feeling manic if that's the opposite side of manic/depressive. hahahahahahaha (I meant that in a good way, feeling happy, not depressed, in case anyone didn't get what I meant by that. LOL)

How's everyone else?

Angela, dear Angela! I sure did miss you! So happy to hear Hannah and you are both doing well.

I'm trying to get a fence built for the puppies, and this morning Mr. H says he just can't do it :-( We still have two more post holes to dig out, plus about seven more T-posts to pound in. I might be able to do the post holes a little at a time, but no way can I hoist that sledge hammer to pound 6' T-posts two feet into this solid ground. I wish we hadn't even started this project. Now I'm feeling manic depressive!

Weather is beautiful here now. Last week it was too hot, but this week it's perfect. I don't think there is any way I'll get a garden built though. It's too far to go for the compost and such, and the fence project is taking much more time than I'd planned.

(((HUGS))) I missed you so much, too! I'm glad you are getting a fence, Granny, but I'd be freaking out if I didn't have a garden. I'm already dreading the first frost which is trying to come earlier than usual and definitely earlier than I would like! I can see that I'm going to be out there building myself a greenhouse. It actually sounds fun!

So, ask Mr. H when he can do the fence since he can't do it today. I've learned that when my Tweetie Bird can't get to something I need done, I now tend to ask WHEN might he be able to. ;-) It sure keeps things from being procrastinated around here... LOL

Angela, when you get that manic/depressive feeling, make your self a good stiff BM sit on the back porch, prop your feet up and think about all the things you accomplished for the year, month, day or the past hour. Do not think about all the things that you have to do yet. You have to stop and smell the roses, and think about all the people that care about you, and make another BM. ;o)

Oh god...not again...this is like a bad dream or something. Ok, Mr. "I got my compost pile up to 170 degrees because i've got better crap than you"...hee hee. No! Not yet, dangit!....You know how awkward it is to just call someone up and ask them "got any doodie you'd like to get rid of?" "What? yeah some corn in it is fine"....

Reckon I could just go out to someone's pasture, and put depends on all their horses for the night? That'd be pretty fresh.....

Ya know, if I got caught...they'd put my picture in the local paper...that would be pretty embarrassing. "Horse crap bandit finally caught!"....

Orange Push-Up Cheesecake

The best ice cream treat I can remember from childhood is those orange push-ups, so I just had to invent a dessert that recall the scrumptious taste beloved by all kids-- and the men they grew up to be! This tastes amazingly like the dream dessert your remember.

Serves 8

2 (8-ounce) package Philadelphia fat-free cream cheese
1 (4-serving) package JELL-O sugar free instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (4-serving) package JELL-O sugar-free orange gelatin
2/3 cup Carnation Nonfat Dry Milk Powder
1 Cup unsweetened orange juice
3/4 cup Cool Whip Lite*
1 (6-ounce) Keebler shortbread piecrust
2 tablespoons flaked coconut

In a large bowl, stir cream cheese with a spoon until soft. Add dry pudding mix, dry gelatin, dry milk powder, and orange juice. Mix well using a wire whisk. Blend in 1/4 cup Cool Whip Lite. Spread mixture evenly into piecrust. Refrigerate at least 1 hour. Cut into 8 servings. Top each serving with 1 tablespoon Cool Whip Lite and 1 teaspoon coconut.

Each serving equals:
HE: 1/2 Bread, 1/2 Protein, 1///4 Skim Milk, 1/4 Fruit, 3/4 Sliver, 11 Optional Calories

Granny...true story - I was in the public library browsing through cookbooks, and a small,folded piece of paper fell onto the floor. It was a hand-written recipe, that someone undoubtedly left in the book by mistake - cause that book was about grilling, I think. Anyway, I've made it at least 10-12 times, and it will make you slap yourself silly.....AND....with the way that you've been acting up lately, I think you need to eat the entire thing. Mrs."Oh! i've never made it, but here's the recipe everybody!!!" Hee Hee.....

John - Ha!! Good idea. (LOL) I do seriously need to slow down and smell the roses, though, thinking of only the positive things. You're absolutely right. You know what else, John? I thought about you (off the forums, that is)this week and gave an extra phone call to thank the fella that gave us some home-grown tomatoes. He was so appreciative of that. I told my husband and kiddos how you put out your extras and never receive a thank you. That still blows me away. I, for one, am very thankful.

Guess what my pups found today. Either CS or CS, and they ate it! It was (gag) nasty!!! I got some away from Otter and examined it (I'm the resident S inspector), and I figure it was either a cat who had ingested a fur ball or a coyote who had ingested a rabbit. Yep, it was full of fur.

And, as for your dealings with Granny, it's all in fun, I know.... BUT, it ain't all in defense unless you take a bite at her now and again to just try to keep the upperhand in the game... KWIM?
