Favorite cherry tomatoes?

I'm looking for a good red cherry tomato. I plant sungold every year and love them but my dad has been wanting a basic red cherry. I try to plant heirlooms but am open to any really tasty, prolific red cherry. So, what are your favorites?

I have bought some heirlooms from store (Trader Joes) and saved seeds from them. So I do not know its name. It is the size of a ping pong ball, maybe bigger. I have a dislike for small cherries like sweet 100. They are too aggressive for too little fruits. But I will try Sungold on the yellow version side this year.

Just a personal preference.

I love cherry tomatoes! I try one or two new ones each year, and if they didn't take so long to pick I'd consider growing a garden of only cherry tomatoes. So far my favorites are Black Cherry -- great taste, productive but I like them so much I don't usually have many to share! Tommy Toe -- very prolific and my favorite red; tastes great at different stages of ripeness, I liked it better than any other red *tomatoes* I grew at the same time, and it produced until the first big frost (but different websites call it an Ozark heirloom and an Australian heirloom!) Galina's and Sun Sugar -- I grew both of these one year, and the taste was very close; sweet and prolific, and I like them better than Sungold (I've been growing Sungold in alternate years; I miss the fruitiness when I'm not growing it, but when I have a surfeit of Sungolds, I get tired of them and begin to detect an "off" taste) This year I've finally tried wintersowing outdoors and it works! so I'm planning to save lots of seeds. I'm growing Black Cherry, Camp Joy, Sun Sugar, a red grape, and (if it recuperates from being out in the cold one night without protection, or if I can find a replacement) Koralik.

I've been considering what cherry tomatoes to grow next season the bulk of my plants are usually pastes and larger sized tomatoes. There has to be cherry tomatoes for balance though so from this thread (and Dr. Carolyn's book) I think Galina and Dr. Carolyn will be in my garden next year. I saw a black cherry in one of the threads here at Garden Web and I'm curious about it's taste as it looks fantastic.

Steve (Z9B, FL) I have tried Matt's Wild Cherry, Sweet Million, Supersweet 100, Black Cherry & Sweet 100. Of those Sweet 100 was the best and better than Supersweet 100. Better balance of flavors than Supersweet 100. But Supersweet 100 seems to have all but replaced Sweet 100. It seems like the trend is for the sweetest cherry and not so much emphasis tomato flavor. Brix scales are great, but I still like toms that taste like toms and not Jolly Ranchers regardless of their size. Black Cherry was a major disappointment for me. I had heard a lot of people raving about it so I was expecting to like it. People describe the flavor of Black Cherry as "unique". I would describe it as having an "off" somewhat unripe flavor. It doesn't taste like a mini-black Krim if that's what you're expecting. Black Cherry while it's not exactly a spitter is the ONLY tomato I have ever tried that I can say I ever came close to disliking. I will also second the previous comments of Yellow Pear being probably the blandest tasting tomato I have ever tried. They don't taste bad, they just don't taste at all. Since I live in Florida zone 9b Cherry toms (and very disease resistant hybrids) are about the only toms that do well here in native soil. Cherries are the only toms we can grow in the summer here. I am planting Sungold, Green Grape, Gardeners Delight & Husky Cherry as I am typing this. From the description and what I have read I suspect that Gardeners Delight might be a winner. As far as full sized toms go, I have tried a lot of them and nothing beats a Rutgers for true tomato old fashioned flavor.........Even the widely popular & excellent Brandywine can't compare to a Rutgers in this gardener's humble opinion. I ended up with a cherry fort - not a maze. The signif other decided to downsize the whole deal... so I ended up with a 10 X 10 area. We were starting with lawn... So I planted a tomato every 6-8 inches. I know inches... I put in: Gajo De Melon Suncherry red star sungold green doctors zebra cherry black cherry snow white Riesentraube OSU Blue Oh heavens, I'll have to go home and check again... there were others... I got a lot of people who wanted to donate seed, so I took them up on them and added them to the 'fort'. I have to take recent pictures, but this is what it looked like early on. I haven't been gung-ho on documenting this because I didn't want to document a complete failure if it happened... :) Then I went back to the original farm (without my camera) this weekend and they have extended their tomato maze - lots more varieties and much bigger this year... I will bring the camera next time I go. Again they told the kids "come back with your basket and belly full." SO cute and SO gets them excited about gardening. I want that!!! I'll take pictures tonight and post them tonight or tomorrow.

If it were me I think I'd look at the links Dave gave, b'c the question about cherry tomatoes has been asked many many times.

And I know I've posted about cherry tomatoes many times here in most of those threads, but there are always new ones to consider so I'll name just two new red ones that I like.

Durmitor, from Serbia (seeds at Victory Seeds)
Nano Ciliega, from Italy (seeds from Tania)

If you don't know about Tania's superb tomato data base I'll put the link below. If you know the name of a variety click on shortcuts at the top, then use the alphabetical method of finding the page for that variety, which has basic traits, opinions of others, and most with pictures as wekk as seed sources, when available.

She features over 4,000 varieties and you can also choose to look at thelink, on the first page, for JUST cherry tomatoes.

The Jelly Bean I know is an F1 hybrid, not an heirloom.
