Do Chindo Viburnum's flower?

I had 10 Chindos planted this past March, and they get a fair amount of sun every day (6-8 hours, full to dappled). I've seen these plants flower in pictures and was wondering can I expect mine to flower in the next 2-3 years or so and when, or do they need some other kind of cross-pollination?

The flowers are insignificant and not at all showy. Mine flowered heavily this year but they hardly show up at all because of all the leaves. I have many viburnums in my yard so the cross pollination might be important.
If they never flowered, and they didn't for years, I could care less.

I planted mine in full sun in 2004; they were 3 gallon sized plants and I planted three of them. They are over 7 feet tall now and have not ever bloomed. Last year, I figured the April freeze might've gotten to them (they lost a lot of tender leaves) and I had hoped they would bloom this year, but they didn't.

I planted them for their foliage and a screening effect, so the lack of blooms hasn't bothered me, but I have been surprised that they've done nothing.

Having another viburnum doesn't affect flowering, only cross-pollinating so that fruit is made. I've had mine since 2004 (purchased as 3 gallon plants) and they have not flowered. They are quite tall now (10-11 feet) and are in full sun. I am hopeful they will bloom this year; they have some significant terminal buds on them, and hopefully those are not just leaves! Anyway, the answer is that, as far as flowering, they will do it on their own.

Hi, My aunt from Dallas Texas came to visit when I was looking for evergreen foundation plants. She says they are the current rage in Dallas for carefree, gorgeous shrubs. I've had the one she bought me for a year now, here in Central VA. It is indeed beautiful, not growing too fast, spectacular flowers. I wouldn't plant a back-up as you will know soon if you like the loropetalum. I think my aunt sent me a magazine article about them, which I will locate and send you a little more info. Good luck. This plant may be somewhat susceptible to a couple of fungal or bacterial disorders. You might want to call your extension office to see if you can send some plant parts to a diagnostic lab for analysis. I'd not continue spraying until you have an idea of what the problem could be. Fungicides shouldn't be used unless you're pretty sure of the disease agent, and then only sparingly. I assume that you are well within this plant's hardiness range? Have you inspected along the trunks for any sign of bark splitting (freeze damage) or canker development?

Hello, I live in Durham, NC and I planted several chindo viburnum as a screen a couple of years ago and I love them. They are fast growing and nice looking shrubs and seem to be tough so far, heat, cold, and drought tolerant. I would like to plant some of these at my house on the North Carolina coast and I was wondering how salt tolerant they are? I've searched and searched and can't seem to find any good information on salt tolerance for them. I do know that they are native to the island of Chindo Korea which is an island off of the south coast of S. Korea, surrounded by the Yellow Sea so it would seem that they would be salt tolerant. Does anyone have actual experience with chindo viburnum in a coastal environment? Thanks, Dave

Perhaps cross pollination is important then?
Mine didn't flower for 5 years or so from planting (in 2000) but by that time, Mohawks, Juddi and Shastas were close by as I added more plants to the yard.
But again, the flowers are barely noticeable even though there are plenty of them. And they have no discernible aroma.

I would imagine cross pollination would be important as it is for most viburnums. But if they won't flower then it doesn't matter! I'm sure it will happen one day (that they will flower).

Okay, thanks. It won't bother me either if they don't flower...was just curious. I planted them specifically for the privacy screen reason.

The southern forum doesn't get much traffic. Most of the traffic is in the state forums (Georgia, Carolinas, etc.).
