Here's some pics as promised, I finally got some from the mother of the groom:

Background is my climbing rose/clematis trellis fence. A June wedding would have been fantastic!

Garden & arbor--Constance Spry not in bloom so I strung white marigolds through it. Was pretty proud of myself.

Flowergirl & ringbearer. I put the potted dahlias I had been growing for this day, along with the boxwood along this arbor.

What a beautiful wedding in a beautiful garden. I love your blue fence and arbor! You have so many flowers - I can't even imagine it in June! Thanks for sharing.

Veilchen, there is much "Cottage Charm" to your garden.
There are many pretty pastel colors. What a sweet place
to hold a wedding, your garden is. And I think your
garden had a mellowing effect on everyone 'cause every-one
looked so content.

I had to laugh out loud at the instructions your Wildlife Department gave you, and I had mental visions of your husband in his trapping gear. It's prolly an everyday occurrence to them and they think nothing of it. I have been clawed and bitten sufficiently by my gentle little hens to take beaks and talons with anything but the greatest respect. Like Lilo says, I have a great deal of empathy with birds of prey. Life isn't easy for that kind of predator. I get daily performances from our turkey vultures (who are carion eaters and not likely to kill anything) and it's amazing to watch them. Over the years, I see that they do their hunting with a precision routine, and it's not at all random. They plot out zones and soar up high, and circle down low and then move over to the next zone and do it again if they don't find food. Sometimes there'll be a dozen of them doing this in tandem. When they light, I know that somewhere in the fields or pastures below, an animal lays there dead or dying. In the wintertime, I watch the routine of one particular female Cooper's Hawk. She is magnificent and for the last couple of years, I have watched her make her daily rounds. Our property is part of it, although she roosts in a grove of trees between some pastures up and across the road. After she checks out our feedings stations, she heads up to our spring grotto for awhile before moving on. Last winter, one of her progeny (I'd presume), a young male followed her same route almost daily. It was so funny, yet sad, to watch him as he first started learning to hunt. He tried to fly into the vines after the smaller birds, and got entangled. He sat there in full view under the feeders for long periods of time, like the birds would going to fly down and into his mouth. He caught on, eventually.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Yes the ceremony was perfect, but leading up to the big day was a lot of work! We also had the "rehearsal dinner" here the night before, a bbq for 25+ people that went on til midnight. Needless to say that after the tent and tables were taken away on Sun. and the yard cleaned up, I was exhausted. Karen, the forecast called for thunderstorms in the late afternoon (4pm was the start of the wedding). I had faith they would at least hold off til after the ceremony, but it ended up not raining at all. Although a big gust of wind did mess up the chocolate fountain and there was chocolate spewing everywhere. A violinist would have been perfect--all their music was recorded. No pics yet but will post asap.

veilchen, Congratulations, what a wonderful compliment your friends have paid you and I am sure it is well deserved. As you have already stated it is a difficult time in the garden, summer blooms are beginning to fade and yet it is too early for a fall display. I too was going to add to some of the terrific late flowering suggestions above until I came across the two following photo's taken on September 5th, 2006 in a neighboring town. One of the things that I find striking about these two different shop front plantings is the first photo depends on foliage of house plants and annuals for color, form, and texture, and even this late in the season it looks fresh, well balanced, and full of color. These colors for a wedding are all wrong but that certainly could be modified. This second photo, again taken on September 5, 2006 I think shows a well tended display of annuals at the end of their season. The shortening of daylight hours certainly seems to effect the exuberance of bloom. Best of luck and I am sure what ever you choose it will be a wonderful day. kt

I suggest that you go to the park a few Saturdays and see other parties. I used to do parties in the park for kids and have gone to family BBQs etc., as well as wedding parties, but never for 50-75 people. . I would not have anything breakable if that pavilion is concrete which they often are. The reason most parks don't like breakable glass is that kids run around barefoot in parks and glasses can break elsewhere than right at your pavilion--people walk around with glasses. I have used good quality plastic plates and plastic stemmed goblets and have taken them home to be reused. That way if some get thrown away--or broken its no big problem. Smart & Final carries some plastic plates that look like glass and wash up well in the dishwasher. Its easier to use, and stack when dirty. I do have enough real champagne glasses to serve 100 but wouldn't use them at the park because (among other reasons)when we are through using them, they go back in the partitioned box, and if they are wet or dirty then you have ruined the box. The best thing to remember is that you are the bride and are not going to be doing the clean up--so make it easy for the helpers. I have catered a friend's wedding in my garden and helped with one in a park. Keep it simple. It is easier doing this in somebody's backyard. Have you checked to see if thats possible? I really haven't seen a wedding in the park for that many people. I can imagine problems keeping food warm or cold, and getting everyone seated and served. Buffet style is good, we went to one where they used a firepit to keep the BBQ food warm & reheat as well. Also with the park, you are going to have to move all of the equipment, chairs,, etc. out of the park when your party leaves. Thats not so easy. It requires a truck and help (who have been partying and are somewhat dressed up.)

These pics are all simply beautiful of your garden and flower beds, the arbor did look terrific. I'm glad it came together so perfectly for you. Your daughter is beautiful and they look very happy together. You skipped the pic of the Bride and Mother of the Bride:) Molineux really glows at night, that's really pretty. Thank you for sharing your special day.

les, it's not my daughter, the mother of the groom is a good friend of mine and her son asked if they could have their wedding in my garden back in May.

Since planning the wedding, my husband and I have become good friends of the young bride & groom and we all get together often.

Most of the guests were strangers to me, but they were all very nice and some of the bride's family came up from Georgia. It was 93F that day but it all worked out, we had a big white tent for shade and even a dance floor.

Beautiful! Loved seeing this lovely event. Your garden is just wonderful. You could rent it out to others as it is a beautiful romantic setting. Lesley

If I hadn't gotten married in April already, (in my much less glamorous garden), I would have begged for your garden as the setting. How wonderful of you to put so much work and love into this, and it really shows.

Wonderful wedding! The white marigolds look lovely on the arbor. I can see how pretty your Abraham Darby is. Very nice pictures. Your garden did very well at this time of the year. So much was blooming.

Everything looked so beautiful, everybody looked so happy, how wonderful. Your roses showed off beautifully and that arbor, wow !
