I've grown several different types of amaraths and the seeds do vary in color.I wish I could remember the color of seed to the color of plant. My giant purple red has blackish brown seeds. I think my "orange giant" had light brown to golden seeds. Some had green seeds- yep they germinated so I guess the color was right. Some seeds were a beautiful reddish color. The one thing that stayed true was that they reseeded for me everywhere. Shannon/Dirtrx

I ordered love lies bleeding this year from rareseeds.com. The seeds were red to pink to orange...very very tiny.

I think I will hang on to the black ones and WS them so I can see what I got. Every other source I can find says the seeds are supposed to be red to orange. I know that those black one are definitely an amaranth or celosia but who knows what kind.

The black are not Love Lies Bleeding....

The red variety will have slightly translucent seeds of a pink/reddish color.

This is an interesting thread. I have begun to collect seeds from my Amaranthus claudatus (love lies bleeding) and they are shiny black, like celosia seeds. I sowed LLB from commercial seeds (packed for 2006) and checked the remaining seeds in the packet. They are rose colored.

I don't get it.

I am a newbie and i was just wondering where the seeds are one a llB, my neighbor has one and I was thinking she might let me get some if i can find them I know she doesn;t know

Plays-In-Dirt Maybe what you are looking at is really chaff or a covering and the rose colored seeds are inside the black covering? It could be?! I don't know but I learned after collecting seeds for awhile that what I first thought were seeds turned out to be a covering and the real seed was deeper inside.
