$2 rose follow-up pics

Here are a few of my bargain roses thus far. Most of them are coming along nicely. Funny, the one I left in a pot(Sundowner)and coddled in part sun is doing the most poorly. I was really surprised how well Chicago Peace has done. It was completely defoliated from blackspot, truly nothing but sticks, but it was the only one there was and I really wanted it:0) Miss All-America keeps throwing out blooms with or without leaves. And Electron is getting ready to show off too. I will continue to post pictures as they mature and also post some after they (hopefully) survive the winter next year!!

Looks like you have had good luck with the bargain roses.They are looking really nice.I love All American Beauty.My bargain bush didn't make it,but is so hot and humid here,and poor soil,even higher priced ones don't always make it either.Glad yours are doing good.

I bought a $3 Color Magic and Chicago Peace a couple of years ago at K-Mart and I think they have finally outlived their usefulness as they just aren't growing as good as I really need for them to. They will probably get the old shovel prune very soon--this week--to make place for better roses.

Hi Chrisar, It's a very beautiful plant and I am with Karyn, I would let it branch and grow some before cutting. It has a beautiful shpae to it and once it branches it will be even prettier. Can you see the beginnings of the new branches yet? You should have at least two new branches where the inflos are originating from, sometimes you even get three or four. It looks as if it might be leaning a bit. As the new branches grow it will get even more top heavy so you might want to start thinking about staking it before it starts to really lean. Now that you mention it - we have a set of cardinals - have been seeing the male for several weeks but just saw the female last week for the 1st time! I noticed the male when I heard an unfamiliar tune from the roof and there he sat - been watching him since. I wish I new where there nest was - I have to google some images to see what the adolecents look like. Thanks so much! I have to ask - do you make soap?...I love your ID/name!

Hey Squirrel, thanks for the heads up about zipdee's thread, her porch is gorgeous. And I live in southwest Tennessee by the way.My goal is to keep those ferns alive and not let them know I have a black thumb! bonniee, Thaks for the link to the Christmas picture. I'm planning to decorate my urns somehow for the holidays too. They are much too heavy to move around too much! Your porch is beautiful, the wreaths in windows are one of my favorite looks. I did get the bigger size urns by the way, did you see the picture farther down? kswl - Thank you, I'm glad most everyone thinks the new planters are good. I wish I had researched size/material/pricing a little better before I got in so deep. I'm pleased with my iron ones. I've placed a tile under each to hopefully prevent staining. BUT if I had known what it was going to end up costing for this size I would've kept looking for composite. I just got in deep and kept going but it's done now and I just got off an 80 hr work week (I usually work 25) so the overtime will certainly buy my urns :-)

Very pretty roses and I'm glad they're doing better. Currently I have budworms eating up my Chicago Peace. I might as well just go cut all the buds off this flush. Sometimes you just can't win...

I love seeing Zone 5 pics! Very Nice I am in zone 5 too. I dont have those 3 , but maybe someday. I have a few $3-$4-$5 roses. They can make it through a winter while a 18$ has died. I like using the wood chips also. I like cedar. What kind are those in your pictures?
I have to bury my soaker hose because pin hole spray on my leaves and then black spot. Does your soaker hose stream water on the leaves?
I hope to see more of your rose pics. I will post some next week. I just gave feeding and alfalfa tea!

They look really good, you are doing a great job keeping them healthy, be sure and post more pictures when they mature more.
