Oddest weather ever. Low teens late last week and then blessed with 60 degrees at 6 PM Tues. Then 70+ degrees yesterday, a record for CS. I had some furniture painting to do, so it worked well being outside....in the scheme of things. But, the scheme of things also means we are without moisture.

I watered trees, bushes and raspberries while painting....they have to be thirsty. Today is the low 50s and a wind kicking up for some snow tomorrow. Am really hoping our winter doesn't continue this way or drougth will become a real issue. Please, please snow. Now that I've written this, reminder to finish the watering before the cold sets in again.

Glad your eye doc appt. went well and there was a bit of "balmy" weather. The sunsets and sunrises have been incredible the last two weeks. Both my favorite time of day.

I have a photo of Lucy at about ten months, snuggled on her best pal Sara's bed, inside her crate and with her little feet curled up in her old food bowl...too cute! That has been on my desktop for a long time now.
I can't complain...we've had nothing but sunny and blue skies clouded only here and there with swirly stormy clouds. Now, the front that had been hanging behind the mountains to the west is on its way. There may be snow!
I guess I don't have any sign photos. There was one of the Amanda Trail in Oregon that my SIL took me on which I thought was cool as my mother's name is Amanda...but that is about it...

I loved Scotland, the people primarily. They were so much fun with their humor and extremely friendly. Only had 3 days there and always wanted to return and travel the country side. I went primarily to see Scott's Polar expediton ship, the Discovery. Was there on a historical trec of my own regarding his 1911 Antarctica expedition. Pleaded with the docent to allow me to sit in Scott's "desk chair". Still have that pic. The book Bobby, bought at the castle sits at hand also.

Have you read about why Scots move to England? Yes, I know, someone is actually asking Digit if he read about this. At one time there was a law that if you stayed in England for whatever reason or time, you could not return to your homeland. Although this always sounded like a very old law to me. Before the 1800s? Perhaps during the time period of your grandparents? Many got caught in this during their time in service with Briton. Briton considered a soldier English regardless of where they were from.

Was your father born in Scotland? And does he have the humor/love for all around as you do?

Accuwather.com has weather photo's that are sometimes just great! The trick (for me) is to download one during one season and then wait until I yearn for that kind of weather. Then stick that picture on my desktop so that I see it first thing the computer is turned on (or whenever I would enjoy looking at it).

So, it is a 6 month ahead of time planning thing.

No, Dad's family couldn't be more American. As far as they know, only their name is Dutch.

Mom's family seemed to all have Scottish names but their travel papers indicated that they were from Kent and Sussex - odd. But, your explanation may be the answer to the riddle.

National Geographic has been a part of my life absolutely forever. I can remember as a small child, discovering a stack of magazines in an upstairs bedroom in a part of an old farm house that our small family made no use of.

At that time, there were no color photographs and the table of contents was on the front cover. The photo's were, even then, compelling.

My Dearly Departed grandmother was one of the 'Founding Members' or whatever of the National Geographic Society, way back in the 1910's, and out of the deal, my Dad got a lifetime subscription to the mag, and had them since he was a kid. So I grew up with a basement full of them. My sister, who has a huge, empty house, thankfully rented a pickup and moved the collection to her place.

David, your grandmother's position was a unique one for a women in the early 1900s. Quite a legacy and must have been a wonderfully interesting lady to spend time with. I just read that the first women to run for president was in 1911. The Victorian ladies were far beyond what the majority gives them credit for. Including gardens.
