Comments (51)I have a good vet, although he doesn't call me to check on Dolly as my former bird vet did. She spent a second night in her crate without incident but promptly threw up bilious stuff this morning when she got out of the crate. sigh....so still no interest in chicken broth or anything, and I'm giving Pedialyte electrolytes to keep her hydrated....by syringe. Her mouth is dry and it is hard to get pills in her, they stick or she tongues them out if I don't watch closely. Dachshunds can be such stubborn little creatures. Faye, I did not know about your Penny. Such a hard thing to do, but only thing to do when they are in such condition. Twelve years with you, and such a part of your life....that was the same age my Moon Pie was when he had kidney and liver failure, so wonderful a little man he was. My constant companion, who turned his job over to Dolly, who happened to be born two days before he left for Rainbow Bridge. I know he told her what to do to please me. With Moon Pie, he was the man of the house, until my Bill came around. Moon let him know exactly how he felt about another male in the house. He hiked his leg and peed on the chair leg where he sat. I could not believe the audacity of such a small little boy. Then I found this statue of a white dog, leg hiked, and I have it in the garden near the Moon Walk. My garden path I call the Moon Walk, because I created it for Moon to keep his feet dry. He wanted to be with me but his feet itched in the grass and dew....See MoreGarden Art
Comments (23)Diane, Lesley - so glad you enjoyed the yellow cymbidium. It makes a bright, cheery spot in my garden right now. Diane - Cymbidiums are easy-peasy here because the climactic conditions suit them very well. Foggy springs, cool (and often foggy) summers and mild winters. They are even more outstanding up in San Francisco. Unfortunately, I have heard that they can be a challenge to grow in other places. This yellow is the only hybrid I have; the others are species and the colors are a very pale pink and white-green. They flower in March/April but it looks like the warm January we have had may cause them to bloom earlier this year. The gargoyle's name is "Gog" - I was too embarrassed to mention this earlier :-) Lesley - The Phalanopsis are really easy - if you can give them bright light (early morning sun is great), as high in humidity as you can go and lower day time temperatures in winter than what they received in summer, you should see them bloom quite well. Key is the medium you grow them in. You may need to experiment to determine what works best - bark or moss or a combination of the two. You will have fun - orchids can be addicting so watch out !! :-) Bill Wallis is a real trooper but I do have to note that he is a prolific reseeder so keep an eye out if you do get him. Comments (150)Hi, Ladies-I received my box from Mary Ellen (mellen) yesterday & wanted to list all the great gifts received when I had the time to take it all in & didn't want to miss anything she sent. First, I love camels & sheep. Wherever & whenever I shop I always look for these items. I can find the sheep quite a bit but camels are almost impossible to find. This great lady found a magnet & a key chain with a camel on them. Also sent a sheet of stickers with I (red heart)camels on them. I was so pleased with each of these & can hardly believe she found them. I love them!! Now for the rest of the contents: a large hershey candy bar which my DH & I enjoyed tonight while watching Wheel of Fortune. With my love for chocolate it was quite a feat for me to share!, a darling inspirational Wind Chime, a Finch Feeder Magic Thistle Sock which the birds will enjoy,(I do intend to put thistle seed in it so they will enjoy more than the sock) character plant ties with frogs on them,(darling),a magnetic shopping pad, garden marking pen for outdoor use, (maybe this one will last on my WS markers),Turtle Sundae & Cinn Ful Nut coffee, a votive holder with my initial on it & lovely scented candle, lavender Hand Sanitizer, bath soap gel, & the following seeds: Cosmos(cosmic orange), Cosmos "Daydream", Nemesia,"Masquerade",Achillea "Summer", Sweet Pea (Lavender Flush, Pink Hyacinth Bean Vine, dark purple Delphinium, Delphinium, "Magic Fountains", Blue & Lilac-Pink, Giant Fuchsia Foxglove, Knautia (pastel), Dicentra,(I will be looking this one up) & Ornamental Cucumber. I hope I haven't missed anything. I am sure much thought was put into all the things sent as most were on my list of wants. It was such fun seeing each thing that was sent & Mary, I thank you soooo much! You made this RR so very special for me & I do so appreciate it. Sounds like all the boxes being received are just great & it has be a delightful RR, reading all the posts & getting to know each of you a little better. Margaret (Thanks Mariann, for the tag)...See MoreGarden Theives
Comments (25)My nephew died 4 years ago and my sister and her husband spend some time each week making sure that his grave is always surrounded by blooms, even in winter. In some way, that keeps them feeling close to him. Each anniversary of his death my sister always places into the ground a beautiful white orchid plant in a pot that was his favourite. Some absolutely unspeakable, selfish git stole it this year. She went out and bought another just the same, at some considerable expense, and, guess what, it was stolen again. I really sympathise with MPPI. I cannot imagine to what depths people have plummeted who have to steal flowers and plants from others. The monetary value is negligible compared to other things that they could steal but apparently other things are much harder to get. These people aren't even clever thieves. Gardeners are attempting to create beauty for all to see. These despicable lame-brains are not taking from just one person, they're taking from all of us. Barb...See Morenicole__
