Rooted rose cuttings -- February list

Hi Everyone,

I still have some nicely rooted cuttings of these varieties available.
I can get (4) in a flat-rate USPS Priority box.

Dan, are you looking for cuttings in exchange for these? No way I can do any right now but I see a few there I'd love to have, Bees Knees, Cafe Ole and Diamond Anniversary

Hi Dan,

I am very interested in the following roses:
1. Golden Buddha (first choice)
2. Bee's Knees
3. CafÃÂ© Ole
4. The Alexandra Rose

I can either send you postage or provide you with full size plants of some that I have rooted or cuttings of roses from my collection that interest you. I do have some polyanthas (Mrs. Alston, Spray Cecile Brunner, Marie Pavie, Gabrielle Privat) and a few minis, since this is what you may be most interested in. I can send you a more complete list of the other roses that I grow (around 200 or so) if you like.

Delta Daun, If your 'Monsieur Tillier' is the same as our 'Archiduc Joseph', I think you would find it easy to root outdoors in the ground. I take cuttings in the fall after the weather has gotten cooler and moister after summer, protect them from bad weather (which may not be necessary) and see in the spring whether they've caught. No rooting hormone. You might have success with semi-ripened wood in the summer after the first flush: it's so dry, sunny, and windy here in the summer that I've avoided this time of year, but I imagine it's moister where you live. I suspect that Jeri's friend's idea is correct: some roses catch at certain seasons, and then the gardener has to have the conditions for propagation at that season. I've never had much luck with Noisettes, for example, which many people say are easy, and I think that may be because I don't take summer cuttings. This year I'm going to give it a try, though. I got cuttings this year in February and tried to root them in plastic bags with correctly mixed potting soil, in a cool greenhouse. They almost all died, just like yours. Obviously we both need to find a different method: this was a new, experimental way for me and it was a crashing failure. Once you work out a successful method you'll be off and running. I've rooted probably a couple of hundred roses successfully by now, and dozens of different varieties. Good luck! Melissa

Campanula, are you getting the barely audible whining coming from sunny Florida? --- i don't know how to grow sweet peas. will they grow in the heat? you mean start them in the pot but then plant them in the ground, right? will they grow on a rose or are they too vigorous? what do you grow them on? i mean, just a little trellis against a wall? (The idiot gardener returns!) I was googling for seeds, and someone said Matucana grows to 1.2192 meters. No, she didn't. She said 4 feet. Do you agree with that size estimate? Is it totally wrong to think about growing one up into a good-sized Tea rose bush? Thanks for the recommendation. I'll try to get some seeds of this variety. The photos are VERY pretty. if interested i have multiflora var carnea. its believed to be a parent of seven sisters. i could have a rooted start for you by late summer. also looking at your wanted list, ill also will have holly hock seeds to. here is a picture of the multiflora var carnea last year alittle after full bloom. i can send you a picture of it in a week or two when its in full bloom. if you'd like. I was just enjoying one of the cuttings I got last year from Dan, Britannia, it threw a "big rose" cane this "winter" and is loaded with buds-probably 40 in all!

Hi Dan I would also love some cuttings. My mom has a horrible ragged white rose that she insists on trying to nurse to health but I think its time for a new rose bush for her. I'm hoping for any fragrant rose for her. she loves white roses so a fragrant white cutting if possible. I'm not sure what you would like from me but i'll go update my trade list as well. In general right now I can offer cuttings of Stewart avocado, beautiful lychee, gold nugget loquat, rose apple, fejoia sellowesie (Spelling?), foduingzhu sweet olive and aurantiacus, seeds of shiso, yomogi, japanese green onions and leeks, variety of radish seeds (black spanish, china rose, white hailstone), yellow champaca cuttings, Jujube cuttings. A white fig cutting (sorry I can't remember which tree is what fig but I have two and one is a Genoa and one is a dessert king- both delicious).
