Dee-lish - Meilland '05, HT, aka Line Renaud (prettier in person, excel color)

Ebb Tide - Carruth'01, florib (in person the May color matched Twilight Sunset. Both had yellowing foliage problems)

Gertrude Jekyll - Austin'86 (loved her! delightful rose)

Love Song - Carruth'11 (trying to outbloom everybody)

Miss All-American Beauty - Meilland'65 aka Maria Callas (no hint of blue as some pics show, vy even color, almost milky if you know what I mean)

Always and Forever - Zary'11, HT (very nice red despite my pic. like to see more of this one)

Oh My! - Bedard'11, florib. (it was bright orangey red in sunlight)

New Zealand - McGredy IV '88 (had water damaged edges the 3 weeks I observed, don't think I've seen another HT of this delicate pink - beauty)

Sparkle & Shine - Bedard'11, florib (daughter of 2 Julias, Newmar and Child)

Sunbright - Warriner'84, HT

Sun Flare - Warriner'81, florib.

Wild Blue Yonder - Carruth'04, grandiflora, AARS'06

Nice pictures Iris. Love Song, Sparkle and Shine and Wild Blue Yonder are my favorites, but they are all lovely!

I had a gorgeous Pope John Paul bloom today - I would photo it tomorrow...but I am going to Tyler to Chamblees....cant wait! A red that I love is Alec's Red - smells just great and beautiful blooms. The McCartney Rose is a bloom machine and very fragrant. Honeysweet, a Buck rose, is an unusual color and big bloom. Carding Mill by Austin is a favorite. About Face is a beauty - my bush is huge and blooms lots. Dorcas, another Buck, is a real winner - always has blooms, hybrid tea form. Chuckles is a complete standout in my yard - in hot, full sun and is sort of a neon pink with a white eye - always in bloom and you can see it a mile away - Chamblees has it. Belinda's Dream is a perennial favorite......Sparkle & Shine is a pretty new yellow. Could go on and on......so many nice ones.

It's a Nikon Coolpix, pretty out of date by now, 6+ years old, I think, but trust me, it's not the camera, it's ALL about the lighting. Just get the light right and you will be astonished. Pick a flower and walk around and look at it lit from different angles. Take it into dappled shade and move it around and get the light hitting just the center of the flower, then the top, then the sides. Study Labrea's outstanding pictures and see what the lighting is like--where the light is coming from, what part of the flower is getting hit by the light. He's so good at it. Then sit and look at your arbor and see how the light is hitting it at different times of the day. And a tripod helps a lot. And then of course post the outstanding results of your study here so we can enjoy them. :^)

ann beck 8a ruralish WA How does your soil look like, being high in iron? The top layer of my soil is black and rock hard clay, but the lowest layer is lighter color clay (orangish), and red roses do well here. Red roses like Double Delight & Munstead Wood both have a higher need for iron. I check the web, and it stated: "The most distinctive characteristic of an iron-rich soil is a ruddy orange or red color, though not all red soils are rich in iron. When the iron deposits in the soil oxidize, they turn a distinctive rust color that tints the soil red. " In early summer when the stems of cut-blooms are softer, they wilt easily if I use acidic rain. My cut-blooms always last longer in my alkaline tap water at pH 9, rather than acidic rain water. My tap water leaves whitish calcium and hard magnesium deposits on pots. We have hard well water, and our soil is high in dolomitic rocks (calcium plus magnesium). In the fall when the stems are harder, cut blooms can tolerate acidic rain water better with less wilting. Below are some recent cut blooms this Sept. 2022. Dark red are Munstead Wood, it's a constant bloomer as 8th-year own root, light pink is Princess Charlene d. Monaco (4th-year own-root), and whites are 12th-year own-root Mary Magdalene, lowest ruffled pink are Augusta Luis: The Dark Lady (red), Tchaikosky (light yellow), and Sweet Mademoiselle (salmon) are heavy bloomers this Sept. Tchaikosky is 4.5" across and Sweet M is 4". They are fertilized with biochar at pH 8.6 which supplies calcium and potassium for large blooms.

Very nice roses! I have Bella Roma and I love it , but it does tend to get those 'dirty' spots on it's petals. However, the scent is divine!

I've been thinking for quite awhile of getting Wild Blue Yonder. Yours is gorgeous!!!! Do you have a bush shot?

The 2nd picture of Sparkle and Shine has the same wavy petals that Perfume Delight has. Such beauty in yellow!!!

Do you have a bush shot of New Zealand? I had it last year as a new plant, and it didn't do very much. What do you think of New Zealand?

Carol, sorry, New Zealand was at a nursery and only had 1 or 2 blooms open so I didn't do a bush shot. I really liked her. We had an unusual spatter of late rain that I thought may have adversely affected some of the roses. Here how sher looked 3 1/2 weeks earlier when I first saw her. I'm thinking she's going to be a stunner but wonder about performance in wet conditions. Not a worry here!

Buford ~ I loved Bella Roma. Great coloring.

Carol, this was the best I could do with my camera on a larger shot of Wild Blue Yonder. The Carruth roses were in full performance at the gardens I visited. I think I expected WBY to be more lavender from pictures I'd seen. Climate? But cannot fault the bloom and health of this one.

My new Bella Roma has finally started putting out buds. For awhile I was wondering if it would bloom. I am very excited to see my first bloom. How has yours performed for you?

Friday, I received my Love Song from Edmund's' and planted it Saturday. Now I'm really anxious to see mine in bloom...weeks from now. Good to know that it's a producer! How's the fragrance?
