ID of white blended rose (with pictures and ID card)

IDENTIFICATION CARD

PLANT

Type: Bush.

Size: Up to 4.26 tall (130 cm) and 3.28Â´ wide (100 cm) aprox. (these measures are estamated taking into account that the rose grows in a neighboring old garden and I could not go and take the exact numbers)

Stems: Thin and flexible.

Habit: Bush

FOLIAGE

Shape: (See Picture).

Color: Medium green, dull (not glossy).

Size: Medium.

FLOWERS

Features of the bud: Small light pink bud, bright-red blended (see pictures).

Diameter: 2.76" x 2.76" (7 cm x 7 cm) the smallest ones and 3.54" x 3.54" (9cm x 9 cm) the biggest ones.

Flower: It is not a big flower but it has a lot of petals (almost 75, more or less)

How does it bloom?: Solitary and in posies of up to 5 flowers of long redish stalks.

How many times does it flower?: Taking into account that the rose grows in a neighboring old garden I do not have the exact information, but it has a really abundant and long lasting blooming in the fall season.

Number of petals and shape: Up to 75 petals counting the tiny inner petals.

Stamen Yes/ No: It is impossible to apreciate them because the flower never opens completely due to the enormous amount of tiny inner petals.

Color: White blend (creamy blended). When the flower is mature, their external petals get curved slightly backwards and acquire a pink color with darker fuxia tones and something that I have never ever seen: a kind of brilliant fuxia spots (see pictures)

Yo can also apreciate in some picrures a kind of sticky substance in the reverse of the basal petals.

Lenght of the flower: High.

Fragance: A delicate sweet vanilla fragance.

Resistance: It seems to be a very vigorous and healthy cultivar.

I'm going to bump all of your posts with the same info I posted in one since the red blotches are a disease..

Features of the bud: Small light pink bud, bright-red blended (see pictures).

The red blotches are damage to the bloom from too much rain. It is a disease called BOTRYTIS BLIGHT FUNGUS - Spotting caused by the Botrytis spores to a rose bloom. Notice "water spots" surrounded by pink ring.

Dear esteemed members, After more than 5 years, I am pretty sure that the pink blend rose is the white sport of “Madame Caroline Testout”, HT “Admiral Duwey” (1899). Although I have just received some pictures from the Sangerhausen, they were enough for me to identify my unknown rose as this old “Madame Caroline Testout” white sport. I would possibly discard some other related roses, such as “Frau Dr. Krüger” since it has golden-yellow undertones, borne mostly solitary and occasional repeat later in the season. My rose does not have golden-yellow undertones, usually blooms in clusters and has a profuse fall bloom. HT “Grossherzogin Victoria Melitta” has white or white blend flowers with a yellow center and a strong fragrance, while the unknown rose has not any yellow coloring and none to mild fragrance. “Mme Gustave Metz” could have been another possibility but it is too pink, at least in my humble opinion. Furthermore, it has a long pointed form while the unknown rose is more globular. “La Favourite” was also a globular HP, related with “Mme. Caroline Testout” and its descendants, with globular form and it is a good fall bloomer (like my rose), but it has a deep rose color that turns soft pink as the rose ages. Having said that, I am quite sure that the found rose from that old garden in BA is HT “Admiral Duwey” (John H. Taylor, 1899), although some more pictures would help me to confirm this properly. First of all thank you so much for your detailed reply in the Forum. It was absolutely interesting reading what you write, although I must confirm that the rose I am trying to ID is not ‘Captain Christy’. This means that we still have to research about its identity, but, on the other hand, I just LOVE research! : ) Checking the web of “Vintage Garden-Antique and Extraordinary Roses”, I paid special attention to HP ‘Clio’ and another HP I cannot recall right now (cause I am at the office and do not have my notes); but no one of these fits completely well with my rose. I also post my message in Peter Beales’s Forum with no replies, so I am thinking about sending the pictures to someone in “Vintage Gardens” or to Fabien Duchers, in England. In reference to your question, YES! I am the one that post the pictures of ‘Chantre’ in HMF and also received some cuttings but they did not survived, unfortunately (they arrived from the Nothern Hemisphere and it was very hot when I received them). What’s more, I have looking in the forum last weekend for the message where someone (maybe you) asked about ‘Nantucket’-the same message I replied years ago-because I wanted to contact the person that was interested in ‘Chantre`, since there are not many people that know this cultivar, but it seems like if the message was deleted. And, as well as this, I am also the same guy who wanted to reconstruct my grandfather’s garden (amazing memory!!!). Among the roses I wanted to get, three of the most valuable were ‘Chantre’, itself, ‘Korder Perfecta Superior’ and Dr. Debat but I could not get any of them yet! :( Well, all by now. I "found" her at a cemetery..it wasn't in bloom at the time..but I was intrigued because of the foliage and thorn arrangement..thought it might be special. I just looked it up on HMF..and you are right..that is my rose..I am going to enjoy growing this rose! I took the cuttings 2 summers ago, and this is the first bloom I've seen..and lots of them!! One possibility is a tea rose from the 1800s named Mademoiselle de Sombreuil. I will put a link below to HelpMeFind photos, and please notice the ones posted by Jedmar. One of those shows pink spots from botritis.

(Just so you know, it was called La Biche here in the US until recently, when the correct name was determined. We had also been using the name Sombreuil for a rose that turned out to be Colonial White.)

ROSELVR THANK YOU for taking the time to "re-write" my post. I am new on it and it was my first time starting a post and uploading a picture here, so, as you might have noticed, I had some problems with it!
I also was thinking about Botrytis, so it is great that you mentioned it too. Once more, THANKS a lot!

PETALOID THANK YOU too, because I think you have identified exactly the rose I posted. I also thought about ´Mrs. Foley Hobbs´ (1910) and ´Souvenir de Pierre Notting´ (1891). There are in HMF many pictures that are extremely similar, but the pictures of ´Mlle. De Sombreuil´ from Jerod are almost the same than mines. If you have some time, please check them anytime and tell me what you think about these other two varieties.

ps.: by the way, have you seen the other white blended rose I have posted to identify?. Maybe you are lucky again! :D

ROSELVR, PETALOID here is what I think is the final identification of the rose: ´Rubens´ a tea rose from 1859.
The pink version of ´Sombreuil´.
