Bright pink rose with 5 petals

This little guy just opened up yesterday. It's growing under a fir tree and is one of many roses in the yard that have been neglected for years and years.

Out of the ones you are considering for possible IDs, I grow Radiance, Mrs. Wakefield-Christie Miller, Lady Alice Stanley, and La France. I don't think your rose is any of these ... I think it's the gold tinge to the bottom of the petals of your rose is a good clue. Neither Mrs. WC Miller or Lady Alice have this ... and their petal reverses are distinctly darker than the fronts. Your photos do show a rose with similarities to La France, but that tinge of gold is getting me again. I can't give you an answer right now, but we may be able to get closer to solving your mystery when my roses start to bloom. You're in Maryland, just a short drive from here ... when summer comes, let's arrange a visit if you'd like to do some comparisons in person. Connie

Needs a Name: Medium Pink Rose with Bright Yellow Center

Diana, I think I stumbled on the closet rose that I've come to looking like this one. It's called Sweet Vigorosa (Neon). If you look it up on HMF you'll only find it as Neon. One description is as an orange and the other is as a medium pink with a yellow center. I found this rose at Ashdown looking at Floribundas, this shrub grows between 3-5' tall BTW. Hi Patty, I actually bought Peter's book as a preorder from Amazon after reading about him and his book in Fine Gardening. I gave him his very first Amazon review and got a very sweet thank you note from him! I love the book and he seems to be very realistic and non biased in his assessment of a rose's performance when guaging his assessments against the few roses I already had like Easy Elegance 'Centennial' and 'Julia Child'. I had purchased several roses prior to his book and was happy to see that many I purchased came highly recommended by him. I have 2 'Poseidon' and these so far have bloomed nicely and are very healthy, and performing as he stated. We both garden in same zones and similar conditions although he is more coastal ME and I'm more inland MA. I would love to see his gardens but don't know if they're open to the public. He's only about 2 hours from me so it would be great to meet him and discuss roses with someone who is so knowledgeable. Whiteout is interesting. I just bought (against my better judgement since it's so late in the season) 2 Radler Rambling Red Climbers from High Country Roses (gallon size so hoping they'll be well established) 2 own root Double Pink Knockout Roses and 2 Livin Easy from a vendor on Etsy. Keep your fingers crossed that we have a loooong fall, lol. It's always a gamble here on when old man you know who will arrive! Sharon

Alida, it's 2 1/4" across.

I don't think it's Old Blush, as that's semi-double and these are all just the five petals.

Let's see if the next two blooms (lower right) open with additional petals.
The leaves don't match R. carolina or R. virginiana, nor do they match First Light, a HRugosa with similar colored petals.
It's been a while since I grew Betty Prior, but the foliage and bloom color in the shade may match Betty.

More have opened up, and I think they're all 5 petaled. I googled Betty Prior (below) and it looks VERY close... I'll check all the details on thorns and leaves when I get home. Thanks! :-)

If it is a climber, it might be american pillar.

It looks very much like a wild rose (rosa canina/dog rose or some other wild species) to me.
Maybe there used to be a tea-rose or so once, and the rest of wild plant that it was grown on is still in the ground? Or a rosehip fell there and took root?

Best guess so far is 'Betty Prior', but I don't think that's quite it. It will be easier to tell when the plant is more fully developed.

So it looks a LOT like Betty Prior, but the thing is, it's so tiny that I would have sworn it grew from seed. There's another one just like it about 3' away. The other roses next to it are very different, bright magenta floribundas of some sort, with about 15 petals. Now, it's possible that a Betty Prior or similar rose was once there, died, and got yanked when we did cleanup this spring... It's my first full year in the house, so I wasn't there last summer.

I'll probably pot them both up next spring, move them to full sun (they're growing under a fir tree!), and see what happens. :)
