Bob, I'm growing out a couple of Poulsen Parade roses in pots. A couple of things come to mind. First, there are about 4 or 5 plants in that little plastic pot you bought. You don't have to but you can separate them if you wish. After the way mine grew out, I wish I had separated them. They quickly grew to 18 inches. Second, I haven't found my Poulsens to be particularly great in the sun. They open fast and fade to colors that aren't beautiful. They are bred as greenhouse potted roses to be sold in the bud. So don't be disappointed if they aren't the most beautiful color once exposed to California sun. Mine are light, subtle colors, so you might have better luck with strong yellow. They also had a lot of blackspot at first, but it has subsided. Third, if you separate the plants, I'd pot them up first to what's known in the nursery trade to a 3 gallon pot and later to a 5 gallon pot. The best thing about pots is that you can move them around to the ideal location for the rose. So if you find these roses need a bit of mid day shade, you might have a location with filtered light under a tree during the hottest part of the day. Frost is no problem. Freezing can be (but probably won't be) different. If we have another very cold December freeze like last December, with sustained lows down in the mid-teens for more than a week, you will want to make sure your pots are well-watered. If you're worried about them and it makes you feel better, put them against a south facing wall of your house until the cold snap is over. They will be fine.

Papillio is evergreen. Which means, you should not cut the leaves back, even if you repot it. Cutting the leaves back could shock the bulb aborting the given year's blooms. If you are lucky, you might still get flowers if you care for it really good.

The cactus soil should work OK. Some people will add sand and perlite to their mix so that should be fine. I wouldn't use the orchid mix because it's too chunky and won't retain enough moisture. Yes, outside is always best for roses. Since it's late in the season you could wait for spring to repot it. Let it go completely dormant before putting it in winter storage. An unheated, insulated garage works best, off the concrete and watered some monthly. If you don't have a garage you can sink the entire pot in the ground and mulch the plant for winter.

If it were me, I would dig Peanuts and remove all soil from the roots. Put it in a pail of water and let it soak if you can't remove the soil easily. Either way let it soak and hydrate while you ready your pot. Treat it as if it was shipped to you bare root. Pot it up in appropriate soil-less well draining medium. Since BK has had problems with her potted hosta and thinks that maybe the medium was to blame, for that I'll refer you to bragu's link above for suggestions on potting medium. Options for over winter storage vary. I put mine in an unheated garage. Some peeps store pots in a screened porch or under a north eave. Freeze/thaw from sun exposure and rodent damage are potential damage problems when stored in a uncontrolled environment. I finger test the medium for moistness periodically. You might check yours weekly along with you other scheduled weekly chores. The colder the air, the dryer the air is. When and how much to water can get tricky. It should not dry out completely but not sit wet either. Sometimes I'll put some snow on my pots and sometimes I'll actually use a watering can. Clay pots dry out quickly than plastic pots.
