Hello cecily9, I wonder if the particular cultivar that you have will make a difference in growing indoors. There are hundreds of kinds of miniature roses and I suspect some take to the indoors better than others. I have a miniature rose in a south window sill right along side a seafoam rose and the seafoam has bloomed repeatedly while the miniature rose is just hanging on. By now you have probably read most of the info available so you know what your up against and how to deal with a lot of issues that will come up. Hang in there and hopefully you will come up with a good method to keep roses indoors.

You made the usual assumption that "mini rose" means the plant stays small. That is not true. "Mini" only applies to the size of the bloom and the leaf. Miniature rose plants can and will get as large as regular size roses if they are happy. And there are miniature climbers that will grow to 12 feet tall and/or wide. I would leave well enough alone on the bigger pots. In fact I would suggest you put the new ones in bigger pots. The ones in the 14" pots will need to be root pruned annually to keep them happy in those smaller pots. If not they'll eventually start to fail because they are root bound. If you really want to keep the others smaller, cut them deeper when you deadhead the spent blooms. You can cut them by 1/3 to 1/2 their height at that time without doing damage. However, if you are experiencing this awful heat wave and drought I would suggest waiting until things cool down before doing anything to them. They're probably already stressed and any further shock could do them in.

Get pots large enough for the root ball. With own-root plants especially, it is important to get as much as possible. It will help with transplanting later on. 5-gallon nursery pots should be fine, larger if you can get them. If you want something more decorative, use plastic terra cotta-looking pots. 12" - 14" in diameter should be large enough. Hole in bottom, do not leave on the dish, the pots need to drain. Some of the plastic pots come with the saucers atteched, pop them off and use them for something else. Water them very well the day before digging them up and then water them well after potting them. They might droop a bit after potting, this is transplant shock and happens. Just don't let them dry out or get too wet. Good luck!

Candy this is so cute! You are a very clever lady to keep coming up with all these wonderful ways of decorating TS finds. Love all the little goodies you placed on the potting bench. Your decorations are perfect. I wouldn't put it outside since you have room indoors. It would be a shame to have the wind come up and blow things all over. Show us your cookstove it's setting beside when you have time and thanks so much for sharing this with us. We have an old wood cookstove that I hope to get finished so we can bring it in and enjoy someday. I'd like to have brick layed all the way around and arched over the top of it so it will be a pretty expensive project when completed. DH says it's his next project. He just finished my old Singer Sewing Cabinet and it's looking pretty nice so who knows, the stove may come in to stay one day.haha Punk
