My hardy geraniums aren't the least bit fazed by the latest freezes, so I would think they would be ok. If the daylilies are from the north, or dormant I wouldn't worry about it. If they are from the south, I would throw something over them at night if you get a hard freeze, or pile some loose leaves over them for those nights until you're sure they are hardened off. I got about twenty last fall from a much warmer climate than ours, and planted them shortly before a hard freeze. I piled leaves over them before the freeze, and they've all come back just fine.

Bummer, I wanted to check out cnetter's daylilies, but the site is blocked by my company. Mental pictures work too. I do love daylilies and they and irises are the only things that I know I can count on every year, so far. I keep trying though. I got a coupon from Breck's this year on the front of the catalog I just got, last week some time. The coupon is $25.00 and you don't have to buy more than that. They have some good "specials" in the center by the order form and some on the order form. I think that is the way I am going to use my coupon SPECIALS. More for their money :) Did I say I was cheap earlier? (another thread) No, I am "consumer savy". Anyway, I have noticed that there are a fev companies offering specials like that too. If anyone knows of any others that offer bulbs, I would like to check them out too. I know I won't be able to stop at $25.00!!! Irises and daylilies and crocus, OH MY.

I bought a box of daylilies at Walmart about 3 or 4 weeks ago, they were called 'Little Women'. Anyway, I planted them out because they were starting to grow and were all crooked from being in the plastic bag. This was before that cold spell when it got down to 18 degrees. The first couple of days after I planted them, they were a little wilted, but they perked up fine, survived the freezing temps, and are already showing new growth.

I have several heucheras ordered, I am crazy about those things, but not sure how they will tolerate our climate here. I'm trying several different ones, so we'll see which ones are the hardiest. Which ones do you have?

Well, I mail-ordered Amber Waves, Marmalade, Peach Flambe, and Heucherella 'Stoplight'. I'm also trying to start some Palace Purple from seed, but no luck with the first packet, so I resowed a few days ago. I am really attracted to the ones with the burgandy, red or orange foliage, not as interested in the blooms, or the ones with plain green leaves. I noticed that the local garden center has some Creme Brulee, which I might just "have to have" LOL!

Highalt, check out ÂChocolate Ruffles. It has dark burgundy-brown leaves. ItÂs the only "colored leaf" heuchera I have. Flowers are pretty insignificantÂjust wispy white "stuff" above it. I like the dark leaf heucheras too, but I really like "real" flowers, and IÂve decided I like things that "lighten up" the shade side more, so IÂm opting for more hostasÂand I love ferns. I really like the white or yellow variegated hostas, which is surprising since I donÂt like other yellow-foliage perennials, but I got a couple new ones last year that IÂll get to see "for real" this year. And they ARE coming up already, so I hope we donÂt get any hard freezes anymore (ferns too). The only other heuchera I have is ÂFirefly, which has the brightest red flowers, and I LOVE it (H. Sanguinea - green leaves). That one IÂve had in too much sun until abut a month ago, so it hasnÂt done much, but I expect it to really take off this year now that itÂs been moved to the shade side, and I hope to either divide it next year or get a couple more. There are so few red perennials!

If you get any of your ÂPalace Purple to germinate, donÂt be surprised if the leaves are more green than youÂre expecting. They often donÂt come true (the leaf color) from seed. TheyÂre usually propagated vegetatively for commercial salesÂor, if you see somebody selling some that look "too green" they may have been started from seed.

DonÂt have any dayliliesÂjust donÂt have the roomÂbut I loved your pictures, Cnetter!

I have a couple geraniums (there may be divisions at the fall swapÂprobably ÂBiokovo for sure), and might get a couple moreÂthereÂs a double purple I really likeÂbut I seem to be more stuck on hosta varieties right now! I have one on the south side of my houseÂÂJohnsonÂs Blue I think, it was put in by the previous ownersÂand by mid summer itÂs COVERED in mildew every year. Will probably move it to the shade side and see how it does, and give it away or throw it out if the mildew doesnÂt improveÂI think it might just be stressed too much by all the heat. Or I might give it away even if the mildew improves! There are others I like better! Actually, I better get it moved pretty soon or itÂll wind up out in the sun all summer again! Just added that to my To Do list.

Oh! Highalt, your heucheras should do just fine out there. Unless there are new ones I donÂt know about, almost all of them are hardy to z4. And the green leaf varieties are mostly hardy to z3. Have fun!
