California good weather

I find it interesting that it is one week into November, I have over two hundred plumies and not one has started going dormant. The last two days temps were in the 80's in the afternoon. Also, over a hundred plants are still producing flowers, some many, some just a few. I sure hope this means a warm winter. I also have quite a few seed pods starting with three on this one red branch:

Im with you Bill. I hope it stays warm too! Your plants look great. At this rate I bet pysycho doesn't even shut down this year.

I am sticking with Feb 08th for the last Psycho bloom. :)

Mine are starting to drop to the lower leaves and old inflos but that seems to be about it.

Oh, this is definitely a most unusual non-winter here in SE Michigan. Yesterday was 45, sunny with only a slight breeze. My Lenten Rose hellebore is blooming its heart out. Salix 'Rubykins' is opening its catkins. My bees were out flying around. Definitely NONE of those things should be happening in early February -- more like late March weather here. And, almost no snow this year, we've had a 3-4 little storms that would drop an inch, and then it would warm up and all melt again in a day or so. I've spent a grand total of 10 minutes this year with a snow shovel doing steps and porches. In a normal year, I would have spent hours and hours plowing and then hand shoveling by this point. North America apparently won in the big global weather craps game this year, whereas Europe seemingly has lost. What the upcoming year brings I can only wonder. Last year was the wettest year ever in Detroit. This year it will probably never rain and everything will curl up and die.

I agree with Lunita. I follow the Sunset zones because they tend to be more specific to the micro climates that California has. And seeing as you live in Arkansas and according to the info posted here, the last time you lived here was about 17 years ago, you really don't have much of a say in the matter Taz. I know Antioch is a lot warmer a lot sooner than a lot of California. And some people in warmer places like Antioch and Modesto can put their tomato plants out early. Also, seeing as you don't live here, you don't know how extreme the weather had been these last few years. If you did live here, you would know that the suns rays wouldn't be able to warm the ground because there is constant clouds and rain, with a bit of sun here and there. Any tomato plant out would either freeze to death, get so waterlogged that it couldn't get oxygen through its roots or get blown over and broken from the wind. Also, don't be so rude. I have seen many of your posts were you have been very blunt and rude. This is sight for people would need advice or converse about different gardening topics. Don't ruin it for everyone else who has to put up with it. No one should have to defend themselves from petty people like you on this site. Anyways, I am not putting my plants out until April 15th or 20th. I am going to transplant all my plants into quart pots deeply so their roots can develop more.

I have one tree that had been on the ground for 7 years, it's 8-9ft now.I have been getting fruits from it every year for the last 6 years. it's having fruit on it right now about the size of a cherry. I don't know what the cultivar was because it was not listed when I bought it years ago. When I bought it,(in mimosa, Anaheim), it has a couple fruits on the tree already. It's fruits is long and not round. the tree is not very large but the fruit tasted very sweet. It's seems to do well and likes the Garden Grove, Orange county weather. Oh, I only have one tree but still get fruit from it so it must be self-pollinated variety.

We are currently remodeling part of our home. As such, the entire contents of our kitchen, dining room and my home office are in cardboard boxes stacked halfway to the roof in one half of our garage. The other half of the garage, front to back, is stacked with our new kitchen cabinets ready to be installed on Monday. Last night the wind was strong and the rain came down fairly hard. Hard enough to cause our atrium to flood, which in turn seeped water into the back half of the garage. The rain must have been blowing toward our house as the front of our garage floor was wet as well. How that happens with a fairly new metal, roll-up door with weather stripping, we don't know. All we know is that a few soon to be installed drawers and upper cabinets got wet and swelled, as did the shelves of our very nice 12' bookcase and a few bottom cardboard boxes (which are supporting several others) got wet enough to start to buckle. As you can imagine, we had to do a lot of shifting and rearranging this morning and will have to see what the contractor says about the damaged cupboards on Monday morning. Other than that, I am really enjoying the rain! :-) Jodi-

Nice to hear some of you are having a mild November. We are expected to see temps drop into the lower thirties this week for the low at night . Brrrrrr..

Sounds like K is having his own contest for Psycho!! Lol!! That is a good date though.. That pic of Psycho reminded me of the contest too.. I will have to admit! ;-). So I'm out of the running if it does start to form.

Bill looks great still. I am in NYC right now and it was upper 40s during the day and going down to 33 tonight..brrrrrrrrr.
Saw that it was 80 today in So Cal, missing the warmth. Hopefully the warmth hangs in for a bit so you can enjoy the blooms, maybe could be a Plumie X Mas for you.

Great weather here in Palm Springs too. Mid 80's during the day and mid 50's at night. This is Super Round blooming happily.

I just bought my Super Round this year so maybe the scent will get stronger but right now it's pretty mild. Sort of an average sweet smell just not very strong. Love the variation in bloom colors though!

Beautiful blooms palmsprings! I cut most of my leaves off in October due to the inevitable rust but one it dried out here, they all began to leaf out again and almost all of my big trees in the ground are getting ready to bloom and some of mine in pots. We have been in the high 80's. I'm worried the ones in the ground may not open up before the nights turn cold. I saw a forecast for low of 49 next week. I think they will drop the buds. I will bring the ones in pots in so their buds will be protected. Darn it... two are huge NOIDS, 7' tall, 6' wide and I really wanted it to bloom so I could tag them correctly.
