How thorny is Incognito?

I have a truly hideous mess of pipes to hide right to the side of the front door. Would prefer a less thorny miniature rose that will grow to 2' or so. I think Cinderella is too small... other recommendations welcome, but I have Incognito on hand, which is why I asked...

probably too thorny for what you want. I checked this afternoon, it's got a lot of thorns.

No worries. I actually wanted to put it elsewhere anyway, so I'm glad its got thorns :) Does it get as big as Hot Tamale? Mine is up to 4' x 4' x 2'. Front to back is 2' because it had a Joseph's Coat behind it... one had to go, HT was a way better rose, so JC went into a pot and will soon go into someone else's garden.

I realize that I'm only six weeks behind on this response, but as a Great Dane owner myself, I'm concerned about your particular situation. If there's any chance that the danes are interested in going after your dog, I just don't think that any thorny vine, short of a solid wall, will be enough to stop them. A 150 - 200lb. charging dog is not going to blink an eye at a few razor sharp thorns. At least, not on his way into your yard. On his way back to his own yard is a different story. While I love the vines themselves, and would encourage you to continue to grow them along your fence, I strongly urge you to find some kind of solution to the decaying fence. Best of luck to you.

I'm not familar with weeds in your region. But for assistance with ID, take a good-sized sample to a local large independent garden center or to your county's Extension Serivce office.

I own 2 Mieles (an Incognito and an Optima) and the manual says NOT to use cleaners with soda, ammonia, thinners or chlorides. So I wouldn't do any more freshening with baking soda. The manual also expressly says NOT to connect the dw with an extension cord or it can overheat. They also warn of electric shock. My suggestion is to slow down and call Miele on Monday. Ask for tech support and discuss this install with them. 1-800-999-1360 This dw isn't the same as others. It's best to consult the manual about water hardness, whether or not salt is needed, and about the amount of detergent (very little) -- and which kind to use before you do anything else. An adjustment for drying may/may not be needed with the Incognito (mine needed it). I'd become a regular with Miele tech support until the troubleshooting is past.

Yes, "hawthorne" is used repeatedly for the tree but is never right. Even nurseries do it. Douglas hawthorn ranges as far east as the Great Lakes area in nature. http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=1&taxon_id=250100087 With a vogue for natives having been in effect in this area for some years the tree has been used in private and public plantings around and in Seattle, such as at Discovery Park.

See, my Hot Tamales were non-starters, so it's tough to compare. My 3rd-year Incognito ended the past season at 3.5' tall. The only other mini I have that is as large is Winsome (but the plant doesn't bloom, so it's out), with the two Soroptimist Internationals coming on strong.
