Full sized cherry as shade tree?
Comments (2)Maybe, I am more pessimistic or too worried about cherry common diseases like bacterial leave spot and canker. I have sweet cherry trees. If I do not spray for leave spot, my trees would look naked and ugly. How would you spray a full size tree? Isn't NC more humid and prone to the disease than New England? I could be wrong....See MoreFull-sized (non dwarf) cherry as shade tree?
Comments (1)Edible cherries ARE orchard cherries, Prunus avium cultivars. You should be able to find them at any garden center. Even Costco and Home Depot sell them in early spring. But most of what you find will be grafted on dwarfing rootstock as that makes the trees much more manageable for home gardens and orchards....See MoreRoundup to kill invasive tree
Comments (10)lkz5ia- You may not have witnessed honey locust suckering, but I can assure you honey locusts do sucker - it appears they are variable and not every tree suckers. The majority of them I have seen do- some extremely bad. My parent's thornless honey locust cultiver is extremely bad. Dozens of suckers every year. However, the thorney suckers provide the most headaches. They can't be pulled as they are full of thorns shorty after they sprout. Here are a few more links where these suckers are referred to. http://tn.essortment.com/honeylocusttre_rjyq.htm http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/38373/ http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/lawns/msg0819310320470.html Here is a link that might be useful: HELP! honey locust tree taking over my lawn!...See MoreIs there any help for invasive tree removal?
Comments (10)utility people will only trim the branches touching the tree or they will top it! Ever see a palm tree with his head chopped off??? In real estate people are always searching for that property with Mature trees but no one wants the responsibilities and $$$ that comes with their upkeep. We have had to remove several HUGE dead Pines and probably 15 diseased or dead BIG laurel oaks (they are short lived) We used people looking for work that knocked on our door because they would do it reasonable (Which is still alot) THENSo remember to think before you plant. And especially think before you purchase a home full of mature trees, they will cost you money. That said I'll take my totally treed lot (one camphor tree included) any day!!!!!!! And yes I still have some dead trees(snags) left in my yard for the woodpeckers and others to enjoy As far as the invasives you have to really keep up on them. but honestly,I have enough laurel oak saplings and sabal palm starts I personally consider THEM invasive! Good luck and happy chopping tanya...See Moreedlincoln
