Don't think they had a model by this name. The designation was added to the rest of the nomenclature like: 863 SCVi "Plus" I for the like of me cannot remember what the Plus designated now. The above ref. unit was the top of the range and most expensive model of the previous generation. It had everything on it. Water softener, delay start, Crystal setting, "plus" may have been upgraded racks ?

We own this model and it has been both wonderful and trouble free.

Oh, wouldn't get a warranty. Put the premimum in a rainy day account.

BTW - who would sell you a warranty on a used appliance anyway?

So, got the unit, but am having difficulty installing it.
The manual states 120v hookup and I only have 110v grounded outlet plug.
My other GE dishwasher was hard wired in and the power cord had to be cut off and abandoned. It unfortunately had it's own circuit breaker hooked to it.
The outlet to be used will be shared only with the disposal plug.
Please tell me this will work as I'm in hot water for surprising my husband with this unit! He is not very happy right now. =(
Won't be able to use the heat deflector or infrared sensor as the existing counter top has a wood reinforcement piece in the way! I suppose we don't need to see the light do we?

Please say I didn't make a big mistake in this purchase. The unit is in very good condition.
Do you know how I find out the age? The serial #'s are
different than US made DW.

110v - 120v are the same thing for most intents and purposes.

DO NOT cut the plug on the Miele. Sharing the disposal circuit is OK , not ideal but should be fine. A lot of air switches have a section for the DW to plug in along side of the disposal.

The heat deflector was designed to be used under a wood or particle board counter and house the acrylic light transmitter. Don't know why you couldn't use it. If the support is in the way then the DW won't close or is installed incorrectly. You can still see it without the acrylic and because of the long cycle times it's mostly a gimmick as I see it anyway.

Whether or not you got good deal will depend much on price and how THIS unit performs over the years. Call Miele, give em the serial # and they can tell you all bout the unit. Prob. should have done this before purchase though.

No, in SOCAL (southern California).

I do have particle board counters, but the way they were installed makes it impossible to use the deflector without having to cut out the wood reinforcement piece that is in the exact place for the deflector to go. Not too concerned as I hope to get around that by not utilizing the drying cycle. Hopefully I have that option with this unit??

$500 US dollars, good deal or? I kinda thought so. Hope I made a good decision or I'll be doing lots of dishes by hand! =)

Oh, no plans on cutting the power cord on the Miele. HAD to on the GE in order to remove it from the cabinet space.

bookert, how old was the dishwasher and why was it being sold are needed to decide if you got a good deal but the price sounds good if the unit has many more years of life. Also is the finish stainless steel, white or black?

I have had the Incognito model for almost 4 years. It performs wonderfully, which is what I expect from any Miele product.

They might cost a bit more upfront but are worth every penny.

Just got finished installing, took 4 hours and tried to turn on unit. Guess what? No power. Disposal works so receptacle is fine.
I'm so sad. Did I get ripped off? =(

Made sure everything was connected just as manual says.

Any ideas? The plug looks brand new and no sign of abuse to the unit itself.

I cried some tears, but am hopeful someone here has some bit of advice to help remedy this. Truthfully I really don't have the extra $ to get a Miele tech out. I went out on a limb just to buy the DW. I really hope I didn't blow it..... but it is what it is.

Said to be 3-4 yrs. old, owners moved to new house and have a baby due any day so they decided to sell it. The guy offered to plug it in for me and if local ( I wasn't) even install it, so I had no reason to doubt their word. No red flags, nothing.
I will pray this is a minor thing. It has a custom stainless door with the large handle. Beautiful unit.

are you certain the unit is turned on? There are two buttons on the left side of the control panel, one dash , one circle. Be sure the dashed button is pressed in and the report back.

If it's DOA , then you need to get your $$$ back as a control board is about 3-400 for those units.

No sleep for me, but the good thing is, I'm not in trouble.

My husband flipped the breakers, nothing.... then he decided to use an extension cord on another outlet to ck it.
Guess what?! POWER!
So, now what to do?
The garbage disposal works on both plugs, so what do you think is wrong? Ideas?
I'd like to know what the button is for that says intake/drain? Do I need to ck this before I turn it on?
I would like to do a short test cycle, but am not sure how to do that.

Ran a empty load wash with some baking soda and a bit of vinegar to freshen things up. (not needed, but I felt better doing it just the same)
Only issue, pretty big to me, was the grey discharge hose connected to the air gap spewed water everywhere! Each time the water drained it did this. I tried tightening the hose clamp but it won't get tight enough.
Any suggestions?

Unit is pretty quiet, I can hear it, but it's dull in comparison to my other GE.
I think it was loud due to the water gushing all over the place under the sink and into an adjacent cabinet! I felt like Lucy! =)

I own 2 Mieles (an Incognito and an Optima) and the manual says NOT to use cleaners with soda, ammonia, thinners or chlorides. So I wouldn't do any more freshening with baking soda.

The manual also expressly says NOT to connect the dw with an extension cord or it can overheat. They also warn of electric shock.

My suggestion is to slow down and call Miele on Monday. Ask for tech support and discuss this install with them. 1-800-999-1360

This dw isn't the same as others. It's best to consult the manual about water hardness, whether or not salt is needed, and about the amount of detergent (very little) -- and which kind to use before you do anything else. An adjustment for drying may/may not be needed with the Incognito (mine needed it).

I'd become a regular with Miele tech support until the troubleshooting is past.

OK, the button next to the 3 LED dots is the "top solo" button. when selected it diverts water to the upper 2 spray arms only and triggers a program overide to use less water for a smaller load. This feature is available to all 6 wash programs.

RE: the power , only thing I can think of is that your recept. is bad or is not grounded properly. A $5-8 test plug from the depot or hardware store will confirm correct wiring.

Ditch the airgap , it's not necessary with a Miele DW. If you insist , you're gonna need a bushing to take up the diff. in diameters of the hose & the air gap itself.

I ckd the setting for water hardness and it was ok.
Won't be using the extension cord to operate, but had to do some testing to see what issue I had with the receptacle.
Will the Miele techs charge me for their advice??

I don't have 3 LED dots on my unit. Sounds interesting.

The receptacle is wired for the switch for the GD I found out! It doesn't have continuous power. Have to get more info to fix the plug to use the DW on the same plug.

We did ditch the airgap, I'm so glad, it was a pain!
Ran a test load and all is much much better than before!

No, they don't charge unless they make a physical call far as I know. I've always found them very helpful.

bookert- no charge for Miele's phone service. A site visit not under warranty will incur a charge and you know the price up front for the initial visit - parts extra.

You really need to consult an electrician but you can do a split receptacle and use the top hot all the time for the DW and the bottom switched for the disposal. Don't go messin about if you don't know what you are doing or you could get hurt or damage an appliance.

You could also just get an air switch that has the wiring already done for you - you just plug and play. The outlet IT plugs into needs to be hot all of the time though.

Yes, an electrician is needed, but will look into the air switch. I'm assuming the DW plug under the counter can't be the source for the air plug correct?

I need to find out the age of the unit. The #'s are different than US serial models. Mine says No.26/ and a sequence of #'s after that. Do I type in the 26 too?

There MIGHT be a safety feature in the Miele which requires a proper ground connection in the 110/120 receptacle. MAYBE that particular outlet is improperly installed and the ground is not present. I suggest calling an electrician or stopping at a home center to purchase a $15 receptacle connection tester.
