Another name of Kohala is Scott Pratt. This cutting is from my house on Kauai. I am so surprised that it has been doing very well here in SoCal as I heard that most red plumies didn't do well here.

Great photo and bloom! What are those growing in? Looks like pure volcanic rock.

Very pretty Boom. The SP cutting you sent me developed an inflo while it was rooting. I did get a few blooms from it but the cutting didn't have much of a root system so they weren't nearly as pretty as yours. I have high hopes for next year though.

Dave, I laid volcanic rock on top of the soil in every pot the other day to make it heavy, as you know we had horrible wind in the past few days in SoCal. I chose volcanic rock because it had a lot of iron substance, I believed, which was the same as soil on Kauai. I'm not so sure that they are pure volcanic rock as it isn't expensive.

Karyn, thanks. This cutting didn't show a sign of inflo when it was a cutting. Therefore, I believe, it had time to develop a strong root system and put out inflo later.

It seems like I'm lucky with red plumies this year. My Siam Red that I bought from Thailand also bloomed. However, I found out later that we had an uninvited visitor, a DARN DEER, at night. They loves eating rose, plumeria, and hibiscus flowers and etc..... Sadly, Siam Red that bloomed was disappeared over night. Boom

Our deer do not bother my plumerias at all. They love our roses, daylillies, hosta, and euonymous. I suppose as long as we are able to 'supply' these, they won't bother the plumeria. I'm spraying Deer Away on roses and live oak saplings and it seems to be working.

Hello to all of you. I have been reading your posts and I am so delighted to see all this information. I have a similar plumeria that I brought from Hawaii and it has not bloomed yet. I'm trying to figure out if it blooms at a different time of year than the whites/yellows/pinks. Our others have been blooming all summer.
My heart goes out to all of you in So Cal. We are praying that you get some much needed rain and calm days.

Boom, are you from Kauai? My husband was born and raised there and has a lot of family still from there. We have a red from there also and a yellow/ white. Its about 5 years old. It has very velvety petals and smells like red roses. Here is a pic but they aren't looking so good right now from the cold nights. Its time to bring them in. The blooms have been on there a while, you can get a better idea of the true red color from the one that is just opening.

Thanks for sharing. I'm from Thailand. About 9 years ago my husband and I went to Kauai and fell in love with the island. We bought a house on Kauai with a little of money at that time. The garden came with 6 bigs plumeria trees. Three of them were Scott Pratt and the other were Daisy Wilcox. I'm sure that your red plumies is the same as mine. It's smell like red rose with a valvety petal. It has long narrow leaves with dark redish color. It blooms very late. I recall that there were a few bloom in the late Feb. on Kauai. Which town that your husband came from?
