Just in time for the slow-down

I have an open seed pod to share! My CA Sally produced a double pod that just wouldn't open after nine months so I cut it off and let it dry out in the kitchen under a light and it popped recently.

They've been tested for germination and they have all grown so I'm sharing with you all. This is perfect timing as you'll be able to watch the seedlings grow over winter when the adult plumerias are winding down!

There are enough to share ten seeds each with 7 or 8 people, so please just message me with your address if you'd like free seeds. I send them in just a plain envelope with a little padding so postage is on me.

Do plumeria grow in zone 6B/Coastal Massachusetts? A friend and I spent an hour or so discussing these plants and they're just stunning to grow. If you think it's workable in my zone, I'd love to contact you about seeds.

I'd love to have some seeds. We could do a 'study group' and keep everyone updated with the progress of the seedlings. I'll send you my address.

Ward and JNine I am pretty sure at least one and possibly two of my many greggii microphylla and other related salvias are san carlos festival and they will come back I have had them for the past two years and they are stronger than ever I think they are microphylla They are like a fuscha hot pink currently not blooming but very healthy shrub. I bought them at the herb sale in chester springs in 2003. The reason I know is I keep finding the tag. I am very lucky this year with my greggii/microphyllas I'm not sure why but I think it was because the ground stayed frozen longer this past winter I had alot less heaving (freezing-thawing) and the greggii's ,microphylla's came thru with flying colors. Unfortunately I can't say the same for salvia ugliosa and a few other salvias like involucrata which doesn't usually bloom for me until August but is blooming for others in my area salvia penstemoides which I bought this spring also salvia darcy which bloomed beautifully for me last summer like ugliosa but this summer not one bloom but at least the plants getting taller . But the good news is salvia cacafolia up until this past week was doing wonderfully as is salvia buchanii,miniata and the eyelash sage blepharophylla one in shade is doing much better than the one in the sun which is getting lighter it started out as a brilliant red but is now pale pink . salvia sinaoensis is blooming beautifully all summer as is salvia urica I love it! and My biggest surprise is salvia discolor it's beautiful the leaves are very different and the flowers look black. I love new world salvias! even though they can give me a hard time. Sarah

Unless it cuts into you getting on to another client and throws your whole week out of alignment since you are charging by the hour it just means she is going to be paying a little more for the extra time. That is one reason to charge by the hour - a situation where you might come up short if you were instead being paid a pre-determined amount based on a bid or estimate. With some clients it does seem the social interaction is part of what they are paying for. I've been on a site working as an assistant to another gardener, applying herbicide and seen a second gardener from another company (her own) chat with the client just about the whole time I was there. If the customer doesn't think it matters that they are paying you to shoot the breeze, then maybe it doesn't.

Hi, I'm a bit of a newbie here, but I love to crochet and try to do some year round, mostly every day. Lately I'm working on purses, but because of DH's work we are going to be moving soon. So, today I had the fun task of trying to organize and pack my yarns and unfinished projects. I wish I could find a better storage method, for some reason I had several ends of threads all knotted together in the middle of a basket (it made a very colorful knotted ball), and if I had more time I would probably have tried to unravel it all, but in my rush to pack I was forced to take scizzors to it :o(. Any one have any yarn/project storage methods - lol. I was working on doilies (remember those? - may be someday they'll come back in fashion) but for some reason a few of them are still unfinished (just the last few rows to do on each). I've finished a few purses I could post in the gallery if I get time tomorrow (posted one already), and I am working on a cotton bedcover for my DD's bed (I've calculated that the rate that's going, it will be about 2+ years to finish) - it's a pattern I found @ crochet pattern central called the Stafford Bedspread. BTW I admire any one that can make socks or other garments, I used to try and make simple slippers but I don't have a steady tension in my work and inevitably first slipper's bigger than the second. Well, I will keep on checking in here, I am inspired by all your ideas and advice, and hope to help others as well if I can. Liz

Happy to report that yesterday I drove the Jeep for the first time. Easy peasy. Going out again for the next three days - grocery shopping at Walmart, two dr's appts. the next two days. A friend is going w/me today, but after today, I'll be solo flying. Hip is soooooo much better, but the old back is the problem, which never gets better - just worse. Still thanking God for my quick healing - just three months ago, I didn't think I'd be this far along. Thanks for y'all's prayers and concerns. Keep up the good work, mosaicists - you're still the best.

I forgot to post a photo of CA Sally from last year, when the pod started:

She's a big flower!

There's no guarantee the seedling's flowers will look anything like her, but that's the exciting thing about them. They're completely genetically unique :)

So very sweet of you to sure these Jen! This is what I truly love about this forum. You can truly feel the Aloha spirit.

If I had room to spare Jen, I would take you up on this but I really don't. This is a variety that is on my list to buy someday. I saw this blooming in person at Florida Colors a few years ago. If we had not flown down, I would have had no problem picking this variety up!

Can you describe the scent of this variety? Thanks for sharing these pictures Jen!

Andrew, the scent on this one was sometimes spicy/sweet herbal and sometimes rose-like. It was never strong, though.

Most of the seeds are spoken for now.
