Are these Naga or Bhut Jolokia plants

I thought these had failed to germinate, but about 2 weeks after I gave up on them these started to sprout from the pot i planted them in. I am just confused and hope that they are not some weed or something whose seeds just so happened to be in the soil i got or whether it was contaminated somehow and these are not Naga plants.

They look like them to me, but this is my first time growing chillies and i am wondering if im an idiot and they're not what i think im growing.

They don't look like the bhut's im growing, the leaves on the bhut aren't as thin as those are. I'd have to say no

Agreed. Those do not resemble chinense leaves.

Thanks guys. Ive put it in a slightly larger pot. Ive used a standard well drained compost mixed with perlite, ive also added some bone meal. Ive noticed some of the leaves not looking too good. Does anyone know the cause of the leaves turning brown? Quite a lot of the leaves are effected. So i dont want to just start cutting off willy nilly.

Welcome, A 400W HID light should adequately cover a 4x4 foot area. I would look for a convertible ballast and start with a MH light and switch to HPS for flowering and pod production. If you haven't done so yet, you should check out the hydroponics forum here on GW as well. As for growing outside (I'm a couple of hundred K west of you in Ottawa), I started my Bhut seeds Jan. 5 and moved them up to 5 gallon pots under a 400W MH and moved them outside early June. They're doing well and I should have a decent harvest by end of our season. Best of luck, Bill

I have two nagas that have slender leaves similar to that and the other five look like more normal peppers. THe more slender leaves ones got less sunlight then the fatter leaves ones. Seeds are from the same person that I trust. Why dont you let em grow and see what you get. Even if they are not peppers at all might be something useful. At this point just takes a little water, sun and time with a tiny pinch if any fertilizer. Just my two cent worth. Kathy Newbie

I hate to say this, but those don't look like peppers at all. They certainly look nothing at all like the Bhut Jolokia that I have grown the past two years. Check this out.

I don't think they are peppers either but I wouldn't go throwing them away just in case.

Hey Chillilover, I'm in 6b too. The chilly (no pun intended)wet, cloudy weather has my chiles all languishing, waiting for heat and light. How 'bout yours?

Ya, some are doing half decent. My explosive ember has about 50 buds and flowers. My superhots hate this weather though. I'm battling aphids too. Are you in Canada?
