Habs not hot

Last year I saved seeds from orange habs an unknown coworker brought in to share. I planted several indoors in Dec; grew great and started pumping out peppers. Looked great, right shape & size, cutting them off at dark green to make room for more.

Last week I decided to cut up a few; put on the gloves, cored out the seeds and diced 'em. Carefully tried a small slice...HUH?

Flavor of a ripe dark green bell with a hint of hab...but no heat.

My thoughts:

-It was a hybrid that didnt breed true?

or

-Growing indoors at 70 F under shoplights isnt hot/light enough....though my banana peppers and cayennes do fine.
