Duluth, thank you for your response. Sounds like your Mom was blessed to have you there to help her throughout those 11 years of her Alzheimer's for sure. Sometimes, it's hard for me to believe anything is wrong with my DH, but then he will do something that once again confirms it! It just mostly seems that he doesn't want to be bothered by anything that requires more than a couple of easy steps. And he really seems to follow a routine of things he thinks he has to do. I've been taking over doing more and more for him, like filling his seven day pill box and making sure he takes them. Sometimes he gets "stubborn" and just won't do anything I ask of him. I'm learning to just walk away and try again later. Right now, the bath/shaving/haircut thing is becoming an issue. I've decided to get some of the wet wipes and encourage him to use those at least. His beard grows fast, and I'd just as soon that he keep the beard because it looks better than when he shaves and then lets it grow out again! I'm trying to get him to the barber for a haircut and to trim/tidy the beard a bit but he is refusing. Might try having my son take him. It is hard not being "equal" now, but I'm gradually taking on the things he normally took care of. Thank goodness for a wonderful mechanic, a handyman neighbor and other understanding friends and neighbors! This week he will take the Namenda twice a day. The first week, he only took it in the morning. Biggest thing I noticed was that he was sleeping better and not getting up three or four times a night. He also has seemed more alert and interested--but that might just be from being better rested! ;o) Better get off here and check out some possible new doctors and get the numbers of some support groups too. Hi, again! I've sent a pic of a solution for your arched window (second photo from the top). A drapery rod is placed just below the sunburst, allowing light to still come thru that window. I'd treat the other window the same: place the rod at the same level as the larger window (even if that places it way above the smaller window). Obviously I spend far too much time watching re-decorating shows! ;-) Anyway...that method seems to give more continuity to the room. HTH! Jenny_alabama So DSS removed the 14 yr old 3yrs ago because he told them what she had done. (physical and emotional abuse) Unfortunatly, the other son would not cooperate, and they would not remove him. He stood his ground with Mom. (she threatened him that she would hurt herself if he left). You are right, she is controling, and we've done all we can to please her, but we're done now. He is going to do the same as your husband. He did have a talk with his son this afternoon, and let him know that he expects that when his son has practice, or needs to change things, that he will call him, and not go thru his mother, since it's their relationship that is effected by it. Sweeby I really see where you're coming from on this. I also agree with what you are saying, in priciple. The thing is, we've discussed this with a therapist, and they feel that to force the visiation would give the son more resentments on top of the one's he already has, and would create a more hostile environment during visitation. In turn, making visitation a negative experience for him altogether. My initial reaction was *internally* "you don't want to? Too bad, you're coming", but from what I've read, and discussed with the therapist, giving them some space gives them the opportunity to realize that they have made a mistake. My husband has discussed this with him, and told him that family comes first, and that friends will come and go, but try getting a teenager to believe that is a miracle in itself. They are more concerned with their peer group than their parents. Recently his best friend ditched him. We don't know why, and I don't know if he knows why, but that really upset him, and he feels like he's missing out on stuff with his friends when he comes to our place. My husband did tell him that we love him, and that we would love to see him more regularly, and that we'll always be here for him. He did recently get a cell phone, which should make communication easier without having to call his Mom's house or her cell phone. He only calls him after school, and no later than 9pm as to not disrupt her home and be respectful. We'll have to see how things go with the visits. If the pattern continues, then we'll have to pull back a little and let him know that he's being rude, and that's not OK.

There are two types of plants: grassy plants and broadleaf plants. Grassy plants are what we typically have in our lawns. Some grassy plants are considered weeds if you don't want them in your yard. Broad leaf plants include clover, dandelions, that weed you're looking at, oxalis, and many others. Generally there are three types of weed killers. There's one for grass, one for broadleaf, and one that kills everything. There are exceptions, but let's just stick to the basics. Considering this is late spring, as a first step in your yard I would spray with Weed-B-Gone Chickweed, Clover, and Oxalis killer. You might need to respray in about 3-4 weeks to get any you missed or came up from seed. That should kill all the broadleaf weeds and leave you with grass and grassy weeds. If you can expect temps in the 90s during the summer, then it is too late to seed this spring. Spring, at best, is a very poor time to seed anyway, but the later it gets the worse it is. Spring seeded grass usually doesn't make it through a hot summer. Furthermore crabgrass and other summer annual plants (weeds) are waiting for the right conditions to sprout. Watering new seed creates those conditions. But if you can count on temps no higher than, say, 85, you might get away with dropping seed, if you're willing to accept some weeds for the rest of the season. If the grass is thin, there's a good chance it is fescue with no Kentucky bluegrass involved. KBG is the type of grass that fills in thin spots left by other grassy plants. So if you're on the thin side, that could be it. Working for a lawn care company teaches you how to operate machinery, but it does not teach you about watering or fertilizing. Here' something I put together a few years ago... Basics of Lawn Care After reading numerous books and magazines on lawn care, caring for lawns at seven houses in my life, and reading numerous forums where real people write in to discuss their successes and failures, I have decided to side with the real people and dispense with the book and magazine authors. I don't know what star their planet rotates around but it's not mine. With that in mind, here is the collected wisdom of the Internet savvy homeowners and lawn care professionals summarized in a few words. If you follow the advice here you will have conquered at least 50% of all lawn problems. Once you have these three elements mastered, then you can worry about weeds (if you have any), dog spots, and striping your lawn. But if you are not doing these three things, they will be the first three things suggested for you to correct. Watering Water deeply and infrequently. Deeply means at least an inch in every zone, all at once. Infrequently means monthly during the cool months and no more than weekly during the hottest part of summer. Do not spread this out and water for 10 minutes every day. If your grass looks dry before the month/week is up, water longer next time. If that does not work, then you might have to water more than once per week during the summer's hottest period. Deep watering grows deep, drought resistant roots. Infrequent watering allows the top layer of soil to dry completely which kills off many shallow rooted weeds. You will have to learn to judge when to water your own lawn. If you live in El Paso your watering will be different than if you live in Vermont. Adjust your watering to your type of grass, temperature, humidity, wind, and soil type. It is worth noting that this technique is used successfully by professionals in Phoenix, so...just sayin.' The other factors make a difference. If you normally water 1 inch per week and you get 1/2 inch of rain, then adjust and water only 1/2 inch that week. Mowing Every week mulch mow at the highest setting on your mower. Most grasses are the most dense when mowed tall. However, bermuda, centipede, and bent grasses will become the most dense when they are mowed at the lowest setting on your mower. In fact there are special mowers that can mow these grasses down to 1/16 inch. Dense grass shades out weeds, keeps the soil cooler, and uses less water than thin grass. Tall grass can feed the deep roots you developed in #1 above. Tall grass does not grow faster than short grass nor does it look shaggy sooner. Once all your grass is at the same height, tall grass just looks plush. Fertilizing Fertilize regularly. I fertilize 5 times per year using organic fertilizer. Which fertilizer you use is much less important than numbers 1 and 2 above. Follow the directions on the bag and do not overdo it. Too much organic is actually better than too little*. At this point you do not have to worry about weed and feed products - remember at this point you are just trying to grow grass, not perfect it. Besides once you are doing these three things correctly, your weed problems should go away without herbicide. * This used to read, "Too little is better than too much." Recent test results show that you cannot get too much organic fertilizer unless you bury the grass in it.
