My jalapeno plant is only producing 1 pepper (pics)

I just noticed a tiny jalapeno growing maybe 4 days ago and it gets noticably bigger every day. I'm just worried because all of the other flowers have pretty much stopped since the pepper started growing. Should I pluck the pepper so that it will make more flowers? Will this give me more peppers in the end? Or should I just let nature take it's course?

I wouldn't pull it - it's way too small. But the plant doesn't look like it's getting alot of light, and may be a little too moist in the dirt. I know weather hs basically sucked for sun, but I bet if you get it hardened off outside there will be more foliage and more flowers.

I don't think your plant is mature enough to produce very many peppers right now. How long have you had the plant?

The best tasting peppers by far are those allowed to ripen on the plant. So you have a yield vs good eating problem. I let all my peppers ripen. I simply put more plants into the ground. I run over a hundred pepper plants. I have red ripe peppers now. Chimayo and Espanola are ripe as are some others. If they were short and stubby last year and short and stubby this year, then I would rule out weather as you are not having identical weather too last year. I would guess two things: 1) They are normal the way they are 2)Some other condition such as light, nutrients or other factors that have not changed from last year. Those plants look pretty big and green, you might try a fert with a bit more phosphorus in it and a bit less nitrogen. But I pretty much a novice so take my thoughts for what they are worth.

dilbert Blossom drop/Blossom end rot affects ALL fruiting veggies, fruiting as defined that the seeds are in the part that you eat, Tomatoes, pepper, eggplant, squash, cukes, watermelon, beans, peas, etc. Tomatoes, peppers and eggplant share about 98% of the same insects and diseases. They are also self fertile. Blossom end rot shows up a little different on peppers, than on tomatoes. Peppers like plant outs about 10 degrees warmer than tomatoes. You can't use Daconil on peppers after pod set (???) I dunno.. hth

Yes, the companions you've found for sweet peppers should be the same for hot peppers. Personally, I've always found the best companion for a pepper is another pepper. :) Are you talking about red pepper flakes? Or some other type of red pepper? Although, I guess it doesn't really matter since you can just substitute any red pepper for what you want. Rodney

I'm not sure how old it is, I bought it at walmart about 2 weeks ago and it was pretty big when I bought it. The plants are right up against the house on a fire escape so they get sun in the morning up until about noon, so about 6 - 7 hours of full sun, I don't really have any other alternatives.

yea just feed it used coffee grounds and it will put on some green, don't water it till the dirt starts to dry out.
another month or so it will take off it is just too young to do much.

Alright thanks. I've been feeding them miracle gro, will that be alright for them?

a lot of people like it but I try to use what ever is natural, bone meal, and a good source of nytrogen is used coffee grounds . Thats all I am using on mine !!

Just be careful, too much nitrogen and you'll grow a lot of leaves and not a lot of fruit.

Looks the same as mine...those buds should open & produce more peppers soon...watch the N like others say, too.
