Ho Ho Ho Windmill sporting it's Xmas light

Just thought a would post a picture of my Windmill, I know people may get sick of looking at it. I put it's Xmas light on it not so much for Xmas but just for a little bit of extra heat.

This is it's second winter without any protection other than these xmas nights. Not sure if they even help but it makes me feel better.

Here it is when it was a small Palm, I think this picture is it's second year in the ground, however it was protected then, kind of nice to see growth rate.

Very nice looking palm. it encourages me to see how healthy your Windmill palm is even though you only used christmas lights on it over the last winter and now again this late fall.

I have some windmill palm seeds trying to germinate on top of my fridge. They have been covered in a moist medium covering the bottom a quart sized freezer bag. It has been about 4 weeks since I first put them there. Once some of these do sprout I hope I can manage to grow them large enough to plant outside and then take care of them well enough for in the following years for them to end up looking as nice as the one in your photos

How many years have past from the time the bottom photo was taken until you took the top photo?

Hi John and Agatha and Kiwi - thanks for the Christmas good wishes, and hoping yours is all that you could hope for - whatever that be. Sunnlover, I don't feel your statement about grown women being babies is fair. Many of us have raised our sons to have wonderful qualities, teach gift giving and sending thank you cards. Has it ever occurred to you that sons can be self-centered? It doesn't have to come from the mother, the self centered traits can come from the father, or actually neither parent. I raised my son without a father figure. His father was out of his life by choice. He married again and did not pay child support, because he made the decision to not to be in his son's life or support him. They connected later, before his father passed away at the young age of 52. Sometimes children are self made. Sometimes they are purely selfish, and only think of themselves. Unfortunately, it's life. If we're disappointed by the actions of our sons or daughters, we make the decision to move on with our lives, and forget about pleasing them anymore. After all, it's not one sided. We are not obligated to love unconditionally, especially if it's not given in return.

That is such a great feeling Michael. As you know, my DD is not longer with us, but I look at my nephews and am so proud. The oldest started in law school but decided to go to divinity school. That curtailed his law degree because he couldn't justify making/supporting a legal decision that he thought was not in keeping with his religious convictions. Now thought his legal training - school and work has allowed him to find a great job in the Legal Dept of a contractor without having to make that compromise. The younger one has opened his own gym. He's a personal trainer but found that there wasn't anyplace to take his clients other than to one of those large fancy well-known places. He's worked at them, but wasn't satisfied. Last year he rented a place and has been expanding since then. This one is the one that we weren't sure was going to make it through society. But he's turned out to be a great businessman - on his own. They are my pride and joy, and so are their kids. Spent the day with them today at the older one's in-laws. Great fun - even though there was a power outage right in the middle of dinner!!

Hi Mellie... I get asked that question soooo often from other GW people..I got it at Bed Bath and Beyond..but I haven't seen it there lately. Your best bet is to look online for something similar...Good Luck! KA:)

Lovethosepalms- your palm amazes me! I can't believe the growth rate, and I'm really impressed that you don't give it any protection in Kentucky! What city are you in? What kind of soil is that palm planted in? Does your ground freeze?

As you can tell I don't visit here as much as I use to, but I will try to answer your questions.

Island I did nothing special when I planted it I only added add some potting soil when I dug the hole, and really not a lot of potting soil. Yes the ground does freeze here to give an example I think water lines must be installed three feet below ground so that should give you some idea of how far the ground freezes.

Kat, I think it has been three years from the second picture to the first. I am kind of loosing track of time with it. I really need to go through my digital camera and get the dates off the pictures I have saved most of them I think.

It has been colder than normal this late fall for some reason, however I think it going to be in the 60's tomorrow so that will make the palm happy.

I have one Windmill that I have grown from a seeding and now it is about a five gallon size and I am going to plant it in the front yard,in the spring which is not really good spot because the house will shade it early in the morning which I think help the plant in the picture to help it warm up a little with the first morning light.
