I think you need to dig it up,if the roots are still alive and the top is dead cut it back untill you find some green,then bring it inside and keep it inside untill it makes a full recovery which may be a year from next spring.I can't imagine a palm having any chance to make it through the winters up here unless they are in near perfect shape.I f it is alive you know the routine,superthrive,fingicide,you might try some potassium on it after about 6 weeks to strenghthen its defences agaainst rot,etc.from what you discribed in your old posts I would be surprised if this palm is still alive,I hope thats wrong,good luck Islb-can you post a pic?

I agree its health depends on you bring it in and put it in a pot with some very very well draining soil. I would peroxide the crown every day for a week and clean the whole area peel off dead material and keep it dry and warm.

Thanks guys. I will probably dig it up. Its not doing any good in the ground how it is, seeing as there's no green leaves on it anyway. Even if I leave it in my garage for a month or 2 it would probably be better than leaving it in the ground another winter.

As far as soil, should I go with potting soil mixed with sand???

Islb,I would not leave it in the garage,the roots will never recover,if it even is alive at this point it needs some serious TLC and warmth to recover.From what you are saying I would think when you dig it up you will see the roots are dead.One of my T.wags had not grown all winter inside,I planted it outside and it still had done nothing so I pulled it out of the ground and all it had left of the roots was about an inch long root so I cleaned it all off and applied some rooting powder and it ain't dead yet.

yes warmth!!! I would use a light soil with bark so the roots get air. sand will be heavy.

I meant to say mulch type soil with small amounts of wood chips and perilite in it.

I have been using bags of miracle grow orchid mix great stuff for all potted plants. I havent had any root rot with this stuff.
