Another name for Lipstick and Lemon yellow?

Last year, I bought a variety of plumeria from Home Depot, called "Lemon Yellow" it is now blooming. Nice bright yellow with a fragrance. I am trying to find any other name for this variety with no success. Does anyone know it by another name?

I guess I am addicted. At last count I know have 44 plants... If all of the cuttings I bought 2 months ago root, and they are all growing claws and quite a few developing inflos!

Also, last week I bought a plumeria from Lowes, what I thought said " Plastic" which I thought was Plastic Pink. Oops, I need my reading glasses, it says Lipstick. No luck with that color either. Anyone know a different name for that one too?

Frustrating when they call them by different names!

My Lemon Yellow, Princess Victoria (labeled as Lavender Splash) Bill's Psycho White and another noid, white with red stripe on the back and red center are blooming. I haven't yet had time to get pix. ALOT of inflos growing all over the place!

LOL You "guess" you're addicted? I'd say... 44 plants is plenty of evidence :-) This sounds all too familiar :-)

I have Lipstick, and found some pictures that I took of it blooming last summer. What's peculiar about this plant is that at times the flowers are light pink with faint veins on the petals (1st pix), then other times they can be a darker pink, total different look (2nd pix).

Very pretty. I wonder if there is any other name for it, I.e. The one I have that was called Lavender Splash, is also known as Princess Victoria. Thanks for the pix., pretty flower! I see what yiu mean about the veins. Jennifer

Paul, I'm baffled..coupons on the internet?? 10.00 off and you find a LP just under? LOL..Lucky you..Darn, wish we had a nearby Lowes..and the other plants you got..!! I still don't understand how you got the other plants, (which are really nice) for 1.00 and/or free...lol..Sago w/12 fronds for 1.00? Drosera, Nep and Sarracenia, free??? You have got to tell me your secret..LOL..Do u belong to a Lowe's club? Is that how you got the coupons? If I'd got hold of coupons, I'd have driven to Lowe's, which is a good drive, but still, free plants? And those you mention are rare..You lucked out, guy.. Desert Rose isn't hard to find..I got one at HD for 15.00 though it was 2 yrs ago. You can also find them on Ebay. Also, several nurseries, like Buried Treasures sells nice DR..I got a bare root 'variegated' DR a few months back..can't wait till it wakes from dormancy..I want to see its variegated leaves. There's many Hoya sites including Hoyas R Us..you should be able to find a H. mindorensis..I'll keep an eye opened. Pug, Max is a cutie..I didn't realize Pugs got that big..25 lbs..I can see he likes posing for pics..lol. U have canes, and we have snow..it's not really the snow that bothers me..it's the -0 and ice. It's worse when electric goes out meaning no heat..I have birds to worry about. Driving or even walking is dangerous..but yeah, canes are awfully destructive. A lot worse than any snow storms we get. So, Pug, I wish you many sunny non-cane days..I looked at your 'denia, it's so pretty..do you have a Stephanotis, too? I like the Steph posted by Littlem. I've never seen a steph hanging before..they're usually grown on a trellis, but it's sure interesting. Mine still hasn't flowered, after all these years..sigh. Again, good luck w/your denia..they're a bit difficult, but w/some effort it'll do fine..a friend uses Epson salts on hers, think I'm going to give it a try..I also use iron, (just a bit) to prevent chlorosis. Hi Christy, Yes, that MG citrus soil is toxic!! I have no idea why they sell that soil as citurs soil when it is so far from being citrus soil. Here is my experience with MG citrus soil. I used it last spring when I bought my dwarf keylime and my dwarf moro blood orange. A year later, and the dwarf moro blood orange is no more, and lucky for me dwarf key lime has thrived. I would urge you to repot the Meyer lemon ASAP. If the Meyer's roots stay moist for more than 2 days, you run the risk of having root rot and a whole slew of problems. I was turned on to Al's gritty mix. You might be able to make a version of the gritty mix but PLEASE don't use the vermiculite! That is also moisture renentive and therefore will keep your mix moist. From what I have learned from Mike, the point of the gritty mix is to have a mix that drains frelly and dries out completely in 1-2 days. I had a hard time deciding on using this or not. I was concerned about how well my citrus trees would do when I go on vacation since I really don't have anyone to water for me. However, I have seen a rapid big change in the 3 trees that I have this mix in. We should get together and write a complaint to Miracle Grow. They really need to change the name of the mix to just cactus soil!! Good luck with your tree. Once you change the soil to Al's gritty mix, your tree should improve greatly and yes it is extemely important that you remove every last bit of the soil mix before you repot it into the gritty mix. I would take the tree to the sink after you remove the majority of the crappy MG citrus soil. I would have the water at luke warm and rinse all the soil off those roots. I would not wait another minute to repot this tree. I don't remember who said it here, but someone had said that the average life expectancy of a potted citrus is two years because they normally die from root rot. The thing that is really bad is that us newbies don't think that we are doing anything wrong in using the MG soil since it is MG. I have been growing tropicals and other plants since for quite a while now and the biggest lesson that I have learned is that a prepackaged soil is not necessarily a good soil to use. For the past 4 years or so, I have been mixing up diffrent soils based on the needs of the plant. Citrus and mango were the last two fruit trees that I had problems with making a mix for. Andrew

Sue's comment made me realize that I made a mistake. I meant squish-squash 311, not popcorn kernel 310. Squish-squash is more yellow-gold than orange-gold. Not as much an orange-y undertone as popcorn kernel. These colors are from the Classic Colors deck which means they are letdowns. Letdowns aren't the same thing as literal stepping-down from darkest to lightest. The darkest color is not so much of an indication for the other colors on the strips with this collection. Color Preview, another collection from BenM, the darkest color is a bigger clue to the other colors on the strip. The popcorn kernel strip of colors is a really good example of what I'm talkin' about. Squish-squash sticks out. It interrupts the literal steps from dark up to light to the point that you wonder just WTH is it doing on that strip with the other colors. Squish-squash LRV 81.6. Popcorn kernel 82.6. Crowne hill yellow 71.6. Squish's LRV is darker than popcorn kernel's 82.6 but just by a snidge. So you can see, just from the numbers, how the movement from dark to light isn't exactly even steps. Jeri, to demonstrate the "hardest part", and not to hijack the thread, here is what you need to do to prepare.. Collect freshly opened flowers and about to open buds like these. Where the anthers are plump, fresh and golden, not at the stage where they are darkening and appearing dried out. Remove the petals.. Cut off the stamen... Spread them out on any sheet of plain paper, not toweling or wax paper which would either trap the pollen in the texture or glue it to the wax coating, just plain computer paper type... Place that somewhere the breeze won't blow it off; dogs' tails won't dust it off nor noses snort it (they DO, BTW! Been there!) and allow it to dry for several days as the pollen will begin releasing from the wax coating on the anthers. I have allowed many types to dry like that up to MONTHS until it was all used and it remained viable. Once it's been drying, you can actually see the pollen falling from the anthers as a fine dust on the paper. The whole mess can then be dumped into a clean glass baby food jar (which I just happen to have and which Kippy has been saving for me from her grand daughter's meals, so they are easily available), place your hand over the top and shake vigorously. The pollen adheres to the clean glass sides of the jar via static cling. A clean finger makes a perfectly useful tool to swipe it off the sides and apply to freshly emasculated Golden Celebration flowers, which, as I wrote, I will be happy to visit and help you do. As you will probably only be making this cross, if you use string, yarn, ribbon, whatever, to tie around the peduncle of the seed parent's blooms, then mark the date you made the pollinations, you go on living life, leaving them alone until about harvest time. What comes next is as easy as the above and needn't be concerned with for the next three and a half to four months. Interested?

As far as I know, there are no other names for either Lemon Yellow or Lipstick. They appear to be C Stars own varieties.

Jennifer, I have saved a list of AKA's that somebody has posted somewhere a while back (can't remember if I saw it on this forum or somewhere else) and didn't see either Lemon Yellow or Lipstick on the list.
As to Lavender Splash, I have that plant too (has a nice inflo currently) but the picture on the tag shows an even lavender color, while pictures of Princess Vitoria that I've seen show petals with dark pink/purple spreaks. Does Lavender splash develop streaks like that? (I guess there is a reason why C-Stars put "splash" in the name?).
It bugs me when sellers just come up with their own names on varieties that already have names; it makes it very confusing to consumers.

Princess Victoria is a seedling of Metari Pink from the collection of Joey Rossini. It is said to have a virus that makes the color break and mine has sometimes had the break and other times just a Metari pink flower. I think that Lavender splash is just a rename to sell Joey's variety. Mine has not produced a break in two years now. It was beautiful and then got the branches ripped off by a 60 mph wind and now is a puny stock with two branches. Early shots:

Bill and Sunseeker,

Yes, my Lavender Splash looks like Bill's. In fact I think that is what got me back to the Forum, wondering whether the treks of color were SUPPOSED to happen. I had wondered if it was a thrip? Is that what you are talking of Bill, as far as a virus? I love the flowers they are so unique! They do fade quickly though,

Wow, those streaks are awesome! Thanks to you both for posting these beautiful pictures! I will be watching my inflo closely; I'd be really excited if my flowers get some streaks on them!

Jennifer- a thrip is a very small insect which can pollinate plumerias whereas a virus is a virus that infects a plant. Not to be confused.

Bill, you are right, I meant ro say "chimera". I just pulled out jIm Little's book. He says they are a type of mutation, not a virus. On page 66 he actually shows a picture of Princess Victoria with "suspected" chimera. Which to me says, they still don't really know whether it is a mutation or a virus??? Page 58 shows Moragne #23 with a chimera as well. Pretty cool looking flowers!
