Hi Dawn!

It was 35 at my house this morning but no frost. The last of the sweet potato vine was down though. I'm expecting the freeze tonight and herbs are all that's left in the garden. Picked all those silly poblanos on Sunday. Must have had 100. Still have some posies around the house and the french hollyhock (came from you in a small cup) is 4' X 4'. I just loved it.

Your silly poblanos are overachievers! I can relate, because our habaneros and jalapenos were overachievers too.

Don't you love the french hollyhock? It does so much better for me than regular hollyhock. I have about 100,000 little seedings sprouting all over the LAWN area. I wonder if they'd take over and shade out the bermuda grass if we didn't mow? It would be lovely if they would.

It was a lovely though chilly day here today, and I went Christmas shopping for the second day in a row (we're almost done!) so it was a fun day.

I guess we'll all be chilly tonight!

OK, I am fairly sure we're really going to get hit hard by tonight's freezing weather/frost because at 9:20 p.m. the temperature at our Burneyville station is already down to 36. That's about a 20 degree drop since about 4 p.m.

We always say 'it ain't over till the fat lady sings'. Well, I believe she sings tonight in Love County.....and it will be bye-bye plants.

Wow, you are getting cold. Our forecast is 39 and we are now at 41. We have been cold and wet for 2 days. We are getting the edge of that storm that is north of us but circling around. My DH said he saw snowflakes last night for a few minutes. We're supposed to warm up a little tomorrow.

Only down to 34 here @ 6:30 am in NE Norman! However, there's a pretty heavy frost on the ground and the decks. Looks almost like it snowed! Maybe need to get my ears checked. I could swear a hear the faint jingle of bells.

Carol, Our temperature just fell like a rock from about 3 or 4 p.m. onward and it had hit 34 degrees at about 9:40 p.m. and then strangely came back up to 37 degrees before 10 p.m. Tim kept saying the Mesonet stations's thermometer had to be acting up, but I didn't think so. I went to bed knowing we'd wake up to a very heavy frost and the end of the warm-season plants.

Paula, I read our official NWS forecast last night when the temperature had hit 35 degrees so early and it clearly stated that even areas that remained above 32 degrees still would have several hours of frost, so I'm not surprised to hear you have heavy frost too. We routinely get frost here at our place when the temp hits 38 degrees, assuming there are clear skies and light to no wind.

I just looked at the calendar yesterday and realized it is almost Thanksgiving. How did that happen? I've remained so busy with the lawn and garden that it has sort of snuck up on me. I know where we're going for the holiday, but just didn't realize that we are going there so soon. : )

We're supposed to have a rapid warmup here after 8 or 9 a.m. and then beautiful weather for the next few days and even into last week.

it's 30 out right now, and light frost on everything. My castor beans are still standing, and I guess, they are just frozen stiff. LOL

The sweet potato vine looks done in, and I haven't looked at the rest. It's just cold out, and I prefer to stay in. :)

I guess, the in between season, you know, from hot to cold, is over. Winter will happen, and I am very thankful that this means, ragweed season is over. :)

Dawn - I too shouldn't try to engage in conversation before at least my 3rd cup of coffee! I only had one when I posted earlier. And my bad - DH got up to warm my car and told me I must have been reading the City of Norman temp. Our thermometer on the back deck registered 28! And my girl-truck thermometer said it was 27 all the way to work out here by the airport. brrr....

Looks like I have a lot of company with low temps this morning. At 6 we were 34. Around 8 we briefly made a quick drop to 25 and then back up. We are 51 now and rising. Was odd to hear places 100 miles south of me were 21-24 this morning. Actually colder than we were. I still have a peach tree with green leaves. A very odd fall. Maybe things will die now and I can finish my fall clean up and spring preparation. Still skeeters around here. Guess they just hibernated during the drought and now not ready to call it quits. I'm ready to move on. The asparagus that hasn't died will get cut off. Hope everyone has a warm next few days and a beautiful Thanksgiving day. Jay

It is a warm and toasty 61 degrees here now at about 1 p.m., but our humidity has plunged to 26%. (Cold air, of course, is dry air.) So, the issue of grass fires is present again.....we had one in our county yesterday when a hay baler caught fire and set a hay field afire. The responding department got it out pretty quickly despite a pretty strong wind.

I haven't seen a skeeter in a week or two now.

My garden is mostly done...the winter squash, cukes, most of the tomatoes, the black-eyed peas and the green beans froze. Surprisingly, though, the pepper plants (and the Tess's Land Race Currant tomato) look pretty good except for some damage to the topmost foliage. I guess these pepper plants are trying to torture me by staying alive and threatening to produce more peppers. I thought they'd all be black and dead this morning, but they're not.

Some of the flowers still look pretty good too, although others are frozen. Even the castor bean plants only took damage to the top 3 or 4 feet of leaves...the lower leaves are fine, and since the plants are 8-12' tall, I still have some pretty good-looking castor bean plants left even though the top foliage is hanging limply.

We are supposed to have 'perfect' weather for the next few days, although I don't consider any weather perfect after my garden has frozen....for it to be truly perfect, my garden has to be alive and intact.

I hope you get to work outside on your vacation days and have a lovely vacation and Thanksgiving as well.

We went to 36 but that wasn't much of a drop for us since we have been cold for a few days. I still have marigolds, canna, zinnia, etc. I have a few cherry toms in containers and they are still green although I can see a little damage to them today. I guess I should go pick that one last squash and pull the vine because I think it's done for. I believe winter is here. (She says again)
