Weekend: Windy, Fire Watch West, Freeze Watch East

Okiedawn OK Zone 7

Today is going to be a lovely day to work in the garden, but wicked weather lurks.

A Red Flag Fire Warning has been issued for many western OK counties for Saturday. Any fires that start will be difficult to contain. We had several large, hard-to-contain grassfires in southern and southwestern OK Friday and today's conditions are expected to be even worse.

A Freeze Watch has been issued for many eastern OK counties and some counties in Arkansas for Sunday morning and for Monday morning. Remember that frost can form even when temperatures are in the upper 30s if the right mix of conditions (clear skies, low wind) exist and cover up your tender vegetation if a frost or freeze is possible for your area.

A High Wind Warning has been issued for the OK panhandle counties and adjacent portions of Texas while adjacent portions of Kansas have a Wind Advisory. Hope y'all don't blow away out there.

I hope to get a lot done in the garden and yard today before we have to deal with the next couple of freezing mornings.

I've linked the various watch and warning maps below. You can click on any county on the map to read the applicable warnings and watches and current forecast information. Also, even if you are not in an area covered by a warning or watch, remember that warning/watch areas are often enlarged throughout the day as weather develops and the maps can change at any time.
